A small walk you have to do if you stay in Purmamarca. The colors of the hills are even more beautiful at sunset.
We stopped in Purmamarca on our way to Tilcara to visit the Inca ruins. The drive leading up to this area and beyond is simply stunning!!!! The town's square has a large artisan market. I think it might be daily as we were not there on the weekend.Note the best pictures are taken just entering the town. You'll know where because all the cars and tour buses are stopped there. Some local artisans are also set-up there. Wait to shop in the village. For a couple of dollars you can have your picture taken with a Lama with the mountains as your back-drop.
it's simply breathtaking. You can't describe it nor will the pictures show its true intensity and beauty of the colors. Worth a trip from anywhere in the world!
Very, very nice. Different times of the day based on the sun you discover something new... hard to describe...
This is a really peaceful village with not much to see apart from the coloured hills, but in my opinion it largely beats some of the more touristy attractions. To get the best view of the hills, you have to take a small path that isnt very well marked, but you can get some info at the tourist information center. The path will take you across the main road and up a small hill. No need to climb the whole thing if you dont want, justgetting a bit of height gives you great views. I went just before sunrise, which made for a great spectacle as the colours revealed themselves with the sun.
Great erosion landscape showing many different colors. Worth while looking at in the morning and in the evening before sunset.
Certainly one of the local highlights. Don't skyp it. You stand in front of the art of mother nature: grandiose, sublime. From the road. You don't need to walk or go anywhere
If you're going to Salta, you basically can't miss this place. Just go see it. There are 7 colours of mountains all the way on the drive there, and on hikes around Purmamarca. I'm told the sunrise and sunset is gorgeous but our hours did not coincide with sunset, and our morning was cloudly. But it's gorgeous with or without lighting. Kinda like Rainbow Canyon in Death Valley.
The Hill is attractive from a distance, but it is magnificent when seen up close. Do not miss the 4 kilometer walk that takes your very close to the hill and all the way around the town.
The hill is best seen in the morning or in the late afternoon , the colours change with the light of the sun . You won't regret waiting a little bit for the right moment , it's certainly worth the effort .
