This Baroque Town Hall is situated on the Přemysl Otakar II Square and it's the very center of the city! It was built in 1555 and then was rebuilt in baroque style in 1727-1730. The facade is simply superb!!! And on the square during Christmas there's the central market, cute and full of different tasty (and not only!!!) things:).
This grey ornate building dominates the square. The clock tower has a great chiming sequence. From here you can see the square.A well preserved example of Czech architecture.
A real gem on the Ceske Budejovice (home of Budweiser) square.......definitely worth of seeing along with the whole square.............lovely architecture, clean and kept in great condition...........
Part of the historical center of the city.Nice to go around the central place and see all the buildings.
Its ceremonial hall can only be visited with a group from 5 persons onwards, so I missed out on this one. Built 15th century. This imposing and majestic building was rebuilt in renaissance style in 1555 (Hans Spatz), and got its current Baroque appearance in 1727. On its facade chiaroscuro murals of St. Roch and St. Florian of Lorch by local painter Jan Bonanely, four large brass gargoyles on the roof in the shape of a dragon (Ondřej Grelinger), the 4 life-size allegorical statues depicting virtues: wisdom, prudence, courage and justice (Josef Dietrich, originals are on display on the first floor), Carillon in the Middle Tower. In the ceremonial hall a vaulted ceiling is decorated by a fresco depicting the biblical scene of Solomon’s Judgement dating back to 1730 (Jan Adam Schöpf).
I was soo hoping to see the inside of this place. But unfortunately, they do not give tours to groups smaller than 5. They should sell tickets and provide tours periodically throughout the day, so smaller parties have an opportunity to see the inside.
