All the rides were working on this day which is a great thing. Getting just fries and having your souvenir bottle saves you money.
I remember when this amusement park used to be Storytown, U.S.A., and I liked the rides, and going into the gift shops. The rides that I went on are the Grand Carousel, and the Comet. I also had a photograph taken with a woman dressed up as a scarecrow.
This park on the whole is pretty average, nothing super spectacular, that is, except for the water park. This six flags has the best water park of any six flags that I have ever been to hands down. I highly recommend stopping by for a day of fun while in NY!
Beats "La Ronde" hands down! We are amusement parks enthusiasts (we visit "La Ronde" 8 to 10 times a year) and this one is DEFINITELY worth the trip! We have been there twice and you can bet we'll make the detour again next summer! The place is beautiful, clean, rides are awesome, food is varied and then, there's a water park with slides and wave pool on top of it! Lodging nearby is plentiful and affordable whether you want a hotel, motel or campground. You've got to go!
My son and I splurged and really loved the water park which was included in the very expensive hotel fare. But the main theme park is just so so.... and the money you spend on food alone makes it a really pricey day out if you forget a water bottle. Truly loved the Go Carts, though, and if you like wave pools and other water fun, you'll enjoy it. A good place for the very young, too... as well as the older teens who can safely wander on their own.
Not only do I have fond memories of going to this amusement park every summer but I also worked there for one summer while I was in college. We used to call it the Great Mistake jokingly. However, I believe that name to be more apt than ever. I was there this past Sunday when I took my 9 year old nephew to Fright Fest. First it cost $20 just to park the car. Then when we got to the gate, I had to pay full adult price for my nephew because he is over 4 feet tall. This made me upset. Anyone who thinks I'm taking a 9 year old on a roller coaster just because he's tall enough is insane. So just to get in the door for the two of us it cost $113 total. It would have cost extra for the Haunted Houses but luckily his Mother didn't think he was old enough to go in those yet. Once inside, you are bombarded with tacky ads for M&Ms, Peeps, etc. My nephew and I enjoyed the rides, the wait times were short however, it seems as though they have significantly cut the ride times. My nephew couldn't have been riding the bumper cars for longer than a minute, and the first 30 seconds the poor guy was trying to figure out how to operate the cart. My favorite ride, the Cannonball Express, we rode probably for a minute and half and it no longer rides backwards like it used to, only forward. For lunch I got him a slice of pizza that cost $7. For dinner we both got a chicken sandwich and fries that cost $20. I allowed him to play one game of his pick and it cost $3 to play whack-a-mole. He had a wonderful time but I continually was dismayed by the insane cost of everything and how everything was geared toward commercialization. Total money spent for 5 hours for an adult and a tall 9 year old boy = $150 - $160
The water was so cold the kids were struggling to get in and were shivering within minutes. Parents were miserably staying on the edge. The air and the water are so loaded with chlorine or whatever other chemical they put in we were all caughing, skin turned red with irritation within hours. After a few hours we left the park and when to explore the area.... So much for a 3 day stay at the waterpark!
We had a good time while there and enjoyed the entire park. The pool area took another day and was fun. The kids we saw were enjoying the slides and pool. There was a a real presents of trained life guards.
What an amazing stay we had! A group of 9 family and friends went with our little ones Thanksgiving weekend. There was so much to do for all ages. The watermark was clean and well staffed. We brought food to eat breakfast and lunch in our rooms and used the microwave and fridge. Then we ate dinner at The Tavern, The food was good, and they had coloring for the kids. It was reasonably priced, too! The kids club kept my 5 year old busy for hours. Cant wait to go back!
Great place for kids and parents especially in the winter. The water park is very safe with tons of lifeguards. Very clean. The snack shop is a bit expensive but expected at an amusement park.
