The museum was very well done. First portion is like a mini re-creation of Main Street that you get a guided tour of (at first) then are set off to explore on your own. Was very cute, especially when decorated for Christmas. Enjoyed wandering and browsing.
If you want to know how Lake Geneva evolved, visit the museum. It is surprisingly accurate and a fun experience but more hands on for children needed.
great way to spend an hour or two..so much history and the staff is so knowledgeable tons of antiques to explore, small fee to enter, worth it
WE passed the museum many times but never went in. We had extra time so decided to visit learn about the Geneva Lake history. It had the old time street set up starting with the log cabin to 1900 shops. Even though it was close to closing time the staff let us in and let us stay well past the regular hour of closing and answered questions and pointed out special points of interest. This is a family attraction and well worth seeing.
The museum was our first stop in Lake Geneva and it set the tone for the rest of our weekend. Bob gave us a personal tour. It was very interesting to get stories behind the town. Very well put together museum.
We purchased a Groupon to attend the museum for basically 1/2 price. It was definitely worth it. We saw all that we cared to in a couple of hours. I personally feel it's the perfect sized museum. All sorts of items to review which definitely felt worth the trip and price paid.
Since most of the potential visitors never lived with the objects on display and never used them..they will enjoy seeing what their grandparents lived with.
This is a museum where kids, parents, and grand kids will find something to see and TOUCH! It is amazing the items available to hold, examine, or operate. Our docent, Jim, spent a remarkable amount of time walking with us thru Main Street with its blacksmith shop, fire station, ice harvesting tools, and 1920's dentist office before proceeding to the history of the area's railroads, mansions, Yerkes Observatory, local yachts, and even cartoon character Andy Gump. See this place at all costs especially if you love history!
Loved it! We spent at least an hour going through the museum. Very interesting history of the area. Lot's of families with young kids as well as the older crowd.
We were pleasantly surprised by this museum! We weren't sure what to expect for a museum in a small town, but it's very well down. The ladies that work there are very friendly and helpful, and the museum is well done. There are lots of interesting things to look at to learn the history of the area, and a well done all main street to walk through. All in all it was worth the visit, and a great thing to do the day we were in town because the weather wasn't great.
