I found this Museum to be much more than I had expected. It was an integration of Historic information about the area utilizing several mock ups of historic living spaces and businesses and excellent displays of the local fauna and flora. The stuffed animals were life like in everyday and most of the species past and present were well represented. There a few displays of equipment and buildings that were not quite finished but showed how restoration was being carried on. The old cars, trucks and railroad items were of special interest. There were several areas set up with the younger set in mind for do it yourself learning and assembly. The entrance fee was very reasonable. $4.00 for a senior such as myself.
Better suited to older children. My 6 yr old seemed to like the hands on portions. My 2 and 5 yr olds were wanting more to touch and feel, which is what I expected. I liked the scenes, like the wagon camp with the mercantile. I will definitely return as my children get older.
We were there with a group of about 40. They had a introduction to the museum, then we were given a guided tour of the museum. Our guide was very enthusiastic and had a very good knowledge of the museum. The logging section was very interesting and well done. It's a museum, what can I say? If you like visiting museums you will like this one.
It's a great place to visit to learn bout the history around Roseburg and Oregon. They have some very interesting items in the museum and you can buy books about the history
Very modern building, some activity areas for younger kids, and price was good $5 for adult, $4 for seniors and kids free.Which way to go to begin was not very clear and the girl at the desk was to busy getting back to her facebook game to answer the question, "Which way do I go?" So, go left first!
informative small local history museum. just off the county fairgrounds and keeps some old iron from the steam age out where it viewable before entering.
Douglas County should take great pride in a museum of this caliber. The staff is friendly and helpful. The exhibits are exceptional, along with live exhibits. They offer family and kid outings too. From the History buff to the curious observer - this is a must see!
this is a tidy little museum with well done displays that are changed up frequently. we enjoyed visiting from time to time when our kids were small, and still enjoy new exhibits as adults. local history as well as greater displays. also offer a lot of community activities. definitely worth a visit. great value as well.
