This is the place to go to get away and relax. If I remember correctly there has been 9 generations of the Butler family that has lived on this property. The current owner Anne Butler is a wonderful, thoughtful, kind southern lady. I'm truly glad that I have met her and I was able to spend a bit of time with her.The cottages that are rentable on the property are adorable. I've stayed in the Pond house and the old Cook house. The stars at night shine so bright and it is so very peaceful here. the cottages are clean and fresh. The beds are very comfortable.I was unable to make it there on my last trip down but I will definately be back to stay - this time in the pool house :)I stayed here in November 2012 and I was back down in New Orleans in 2014. I do try to come down every other year.Thank you very much Anne.
We waited on the porch and were greeted quickly and warmly by Mrs. Butler (we discovered later who she was) and were mesmerized by her on sight. She has the most genuine hospitality in her tine and manner, an impeccable southern Belle. She was gracious and thorough during the tour, pointing out interesting details throughout the house and giving us an appreciation of this early plantation. She invited is to walk the extensive grounds. We decided we will certainly stay on her cabins in our next trip through SF. Overall my favorite tour in SF.
Great historical home with tour given by actual descendant of original owners. Very interesting!
Sweetest little tour guide you ever did meet!! Everything in the home is authentic and nothing had been restored or updated!!! Beautiful grounds and the friendliest and helpful staff!!! Will definitely stay in their beautiful bed and breakfast cabins on another trip!!!
This plantation has majestic oak trees that are just charming and will take your breath away. This home is still run by the same family and will show you the way they live inside this home. Great stories to be told by family members. I loved being able to look down into the "cellar". The library is to die for! Be sure to meet the peacock as he is very fun to watch as he eats the cat food. I haven't stayed here, but husband and I are planning on staying in one of the cottages out by the lake.
Butler Greenwood Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana, has been in the hands of the Butler family since it was built in 1810. So it was extremely fascinating that we learned that our tour guide was Ann Butler, an author and historian with family genes. Not surprisingly, Ms. Butler has an extensive and thorough knowledge of Butler Greenwood's history. Located on highway 61, it is easily accessible. The 44 acres of grounds contains the plantation house, a gazebo and a rear brick kitchen. The gardens flanking the house remain one of the few extant examples of antebellum garden design in West Feliciana Parish. As a woman, Ms. Butler is particularly intrigued by the history of the plantation, which provides an excellent illustration of how southern women managed great southern plantations.
Stopped in for a tour, as we were in St. Francisville staying at another plantation. The tour guide was the daughter of the owner of the plantation, I think. She was knowledgeable and friendly but it was a little awkward because it seemed like we were on a tour of her house and not a professional tour. It really is a beautiful plantation though. We took some really pretty pictures on their swing by the pond with the plantation in the background. A great time!
We have stayed here three times in the last four years. I can't say enough about Buttler Greenwood. Love the look and atmosphere! We toured the town of St Franciville great! And looked at different places to stay everybody in town suggested Buttler Greenwood. Would stay there again.
We did a quick reconnaissance for B&Bs for a future visit (stayed at the Best Western). Several were somewhat tacky outliying buildings with poor views and surroundings. These were very attractive, all with views of a pretty pond and a surrounding large grassy garden suitable for croquet, bocce, picnics, or such.
I honestly cannot say enough about Butler Greenwood Plantation. Fate stepped in and led us to the doorstop of this lovely home and its wonderfuly gracious, original family member and current owner, Anne Butler. We stayed at Pond House and I will never forget the feeling of peace and tranquility I encountered there. I was renewed and rejuvenated both mentally and spiritually there and hope to be able to go back often.Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Anne!Sheila
