Living insects and bugs..I loved the varietyI also liked the priceI didn't like the location but ok
When me and my 6 other friends saw that this is the No1 attraction in Thessaloniki, we were full of doubts. Is there any chance that this exhibition is better than any Ouzo tavern, fried fish restaurant, food Market, bar or even the white tower itself? - We just had to check it out!So out we went, and in a few minutes ride from the center of town, the miracle revealed. It was a breathtaking microcosmos that made us marvel with awe. The guide was friendly, insightful and even let us touch some of the animals. The part with the blue Iguana was the best!If you visit Thessaloniki, do yourself a favor and go there.
I visited here with my friend and it was really worth to visit! Exhibition was really interesting and I'm really happy that I visited at Insectopia.
We had not seen insectopia on any of the "to do" lists for Thessaloniki but as it was rated number 1 by trip advisor visitors we decided to pay a visit and we are soooo glad we did! This was by far our kids (ages 7 and 12) favorite thing in our 8 days in the city. The exhibition is one of a kind and although we went to many exhibits of animals, insects and reptiles around the world, this truly beats anything,ng we had seen. It is not so much the variety housed (it is a small exhibit) but the intimate experience that makes the out of the way trip worth it. Housed in an old building that seems borderline scary at 7 at night when we went, the exhibit is very well organized, very educational and quite hands on, provided you get the permission by one of the guides. This is all brought to life by the passion of the people working there and we were privileged to have a one to one explanation about everything from the person on duty who was unbelievably knowledgable, passionate and kind. Our kids got to ask all kinds of questions and even got to hold some of the strangest insects (not the poisonous ones of course). The butterfly room is superb, with nothing to envy from the glamorous London exhibit we visited last year. In fact our kids enjoyed this one more since they got a personal tour and even given a dead butterfly to take home with instructions on how to preserve it ( we learned their life span is on,y 20 days). The hours are also convenient since it seems that after 7 there is not much to do with kids in this city and the place is open til 9. We really learned a lot and from now on will see ants in a completely different light! Apparently we have much to learn from their organization, work system and communication! Tip-- make sure you give a taxi driver the address as most people have not heard of this place. Even when you are there you will think it is closed or the wrong address, but it is not, it is just an awesome place housed in an old building due to lack of funds. This is a true shame by the way as the exhibit is clearly struggling financially and so worth state or,private support. And at 12 euro for a family ticket, this is hardly enough to keep the place alive. But we hope someone out there with funds will appreciate the beauty that we saw.
It was a bit of a journey finding insectopia but in the end well worth it. I went with my ten year old daughter who loved it and the staff took so much care explaining all about the snakes, insects, spiders iguanas and more. The butterfly exhibit was the highlight as you went into a room where large colorful butterflies fly all around you. As we were there on the afternoon when the Python and the other snakes were fed, we fortunate to witness how the snakes attack and devour their prey. A nice time and I hope that more people visit so that they can extend their collection.
I can thing better name than Insectopia...This place is full of surprises starting with ants, butterflies, interesting bugs, spiders, iguana... Together with pleasant guide the whole exhibition is refreshing, educative and worthy to see. You may come back home with Morpho peleides ready to be put in frame as a memo to unusual trip.
We want with our kids (6,10,12) And It was very very interesting. We were lucky because we arrived on sunday- The day the feed some of the snakes which was fascinating, but I'm sure that you can watch interesting things any other day as well. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Most recommend!
A nice and friendly place with a personal touch! Amazing insects & animals! We got the amazing opportunity to get a free guiding from a local. Unforgettable! /Karo & Felix
relatively new location so not as many exhibits as they would like - but a good collection of insects and a few snakes.
Insectopia is an amazing place especially for kids. It is so rare for the kids to see and observe the behavior of the insects in the middle of a city. The people there were very helpful explaining fascinating details from the life of the insects. We spent a very exciting afternoon!!!!
