My family stopped by the Larch Hills Winery on Sunday October 12, 2014. The view at the entrance of the winery is gorgeous. Driving down the narrow road you see the lush vineyard and approach a cozy little house. On the side of the house we were able to see how they made their wine. They educated us on their process and the aromas were very flavourful as they were making wine right then and there! We got to taste freshly squeezed grape juice, which was sweet and delicious. Inside the house we tasted a few of their wines. They specialize in White Wines. Their Ortega was my favourite!! The entire experience was lovely and I would really recommend visiting this winery if you are driving to Vancouver or in a nearby area, for the view and especially the wine.
Was a bit of a drive but this place is gorgeous. Set up on top of a hillside that over looks the valley with grape vines trailing down the sides of the hill. They don't serve food. But they offer a great selection of wine. Try the Ortega. Wow. Wine tasting is done in the traditional style or you can just drink it. Amazingly priced quality wine. Bring the kids, bring the wife, or just take some friends up there and buy a bottle and sit out side on the deck and enjoy the beauty of it all.A BC not to miss. Fyi...Mission Hill is a tourist trap of overly dry wines. Nice view there though.
From the moment you arrive you are made welcome. We roamed the vineyard and were enthralled by the valley and mountain vistas. Tasting was an enjoyable time followed by relaxing in the shade with a glass of my favourite while my purchases were packaged for travel. The journey on winding roads was well worth it...we will definitely visit next time we are in the Shuswap. .....oh, and yes the wine is delightful!
The winery is situated on the side of a hill with great views. I was here with a bus load of 40 people (with previous warning to the owner) and we all sampled a variety of wines. The owner, who was on his own, handled the mob very well. Judging from the quantities that people purchased I would say everyone was impressed. Several of the wines are award winners.
During a trip through the area, we decided to stop at this winery because of its positive reviews. We made the turn off the highway and continued up and up the hillside. Every time we thought we must have missed our turn, there was a sign pointing us in the right direction. It certainly is a unique experience. When we arrived, we were the only ones in the winery. The woman behind the counter was short with us and did not engage in explanation or conversation. First impressions were not good. However, a gentleman appeared soon after and took over. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and the service was excellent. We left with several bottles of white wine. We would gladly return here during another trip to the area.
We visited this winery several years ago and returned with several friends this time. gorgeous views as the winery is set on top of a hillside. Sampled several and even though we prefer red wines, brought home Mad Angie which is a white. Will definately return when we are in the area.
We had the pleasure of visiting this award-winning winery tucked away in Salmon Arm. We were celebrating out 11th Anniversary and thought we would take a memento to remember where we stayed. The wine was delicious! We tried a few to make sure. Not sure if there is a fee if you want to just do the tasting as we bought wine. The service was fantastic, modest and very friendly. I would definitely recommend Larch Hills Winery.
I am very particular about the wines that I drink, by themselves or paired with food. Larch Hills Winery makes the kind of wine that I can really enjoy. Jack and Hazel Manser are welcoming and friendly host in the wine tasting shop. And the view back down the North Okanagan Valley is spectacular. A great place to visit. Some great wines to enjoy. Try the Lemberger (red) and Ortega (white).
Your visit to Larch Hill winery will start with an uphill drive......keep going.....and when you get to the top the view is great and you have a drive down through the vineyards to the Larch Hill Wine Shop! The depth and quality of the wines are outstanding, and it is obviously popular sine the merlot was all sold out. The white wines ran not the sweet side for my palate, but all with a fresh finish and overall very appealing.Wish I lived nearby because I am sure they produce some small volume, very tasty wines......did I mention the prices are very nice, too? Summary: nice wine, great value, great view, friendly family run business!
Larch Hills Winery are great neighbours. They grow beautiful lucious grapes that temp even the non drinker. Over the years one or two bottles of their Famous Ortega has found their way into my wine storage cupboard, and have allowed me to have a truly wonderful afternoon. They are big on the world eyes and fit right in with the rest of us neighbours. Would recommend this spot with it's fantastic view of our place somewhere in the beautiful valley below their wine tasting room. These folks are just like us, good hosts with supremely beautiful flavors of all types to please the spirit buds out there
