Great place to sit and think and check out the sleeping giant. I love to go there at any time of day in any weather. Great place to take the kids.
This small park in the center of Thunder Bay is on a ridge overlooking all of the old part of Thunder Bay. Looking east you have a fabulous view of the Sleeping Giant, a long peninsula jutting out into Lake Superior and looking like a giant laying down in the water. To the south the great view is of Mount McKay. The city has planted a giant panorama of multicolored blooms in a sunken garden and while you can look at the flowers, the kids can play on the swings in the small play area in the park. This park should certainly be put on anyone's list of 'to see' things in Thunder Bay.
Every traveler to Thunder Bay should stop at this part to experience this magnificent view of Lake Superior and the Sleeping Giant. We were last here 15 years ago and at the time, the park was in a run down condition. It is gratifying that it is now well kept again and pristine.
This location is good for you to take pictures and show it to your friends, that you visited Thunder Bay
For the travelers looking for a quick stop to see a beautiful view of Thunder Bay AND the Sleeping Giant, this is a place for you. It's a quiet spot you can drive or walk to. On a clear sunny day you can see the sleeping giant shining in the water and a good park of the city. This is also a popular fitness park for the locals. With the stairs, hills and benches you may find a few athletes passing by.
Amazing view and in the summer it's nice to bring a blanket and have a picnic lunch. If you think you may have to use the "facilities" during your visit just make sure you supply your own tissue (just in case)
Beautiful spot with lovely flowers, walkway and panoramic view of the lower city and harbour out to sleeping giant. Great spot to enjoy a cup of tea and some peace !!
Small and mighty fine for many reasons: relaxing with a great view of the Sleeping Giant in the harbour (& freighters gliding by), taking a quiet lunch break, "submarine races" at night with a lover, or a quick fitness routine up and down the stairs to Bay Street. Pretty view of sunrises and northern Ontario landscape.
The view is, as usual, stunning of the Sleeping Giant in Lake Superior. Sunken Garden also impressive with bright golden Mums and many other varieties of flowers. Kids were enjoying the new modern playground, and the grassy slope under the lookout wall (under the watchful eyes of parents and grand-parents). Very enjoyable break!
It is a great place to park and see the ships. A lot of the city can be seen from this point. There is a nice little playground for the children to enjoy.
