In about 2h from Thessaloniki you can find yourself in the most amazing cave with impressive stalactites and stalagmites in bright white and red colors. Tours are every 30 min starting at 8 till 5pm and always have a guide. To take advantage of your day, you could start early and plan a visit to cave Aggitis as well, which is further up north (closer to Drama). Or you could stop by the Archaeological museum and site of Amfipolis, located on your way to Alistrati cave. Extremely interesting area!! Highly recommended.

At first you walk in and it's interesting until you come to this huge area that is absolutely stunning... You are now understanding much more!!! You begin to descend down man made steps that are slightly slippery with the wrong shoes... Be prepared for that. The steps are not well planned all the way to the exit. Every turn leaves you amazed at the formations and how huge in diameter they are - the colors are awesome - you are transported to another time!!! I have been to many a cave and this one is my favorite to date. Visiting during off season and early in the day would be a great time, you will not be rushed to exit. I find no need to have to listen to music or the clatter of people speaking, to me it is more of an experience and not a tour. Enjoy and think that Alexander the Great might have walked thru this cave at some point!

Do yourself a favour & visit these beautiful caves if you ever get the chance, they have to be seen to be believed. €8 is nothing for what you get to experience. If that is not enough for you & you still have energy to burn, then take a walk down to the Aggitis Gorge, which is about a 10 minute walk further down from the ticket booth.

So spectacular and memorable 7 years ago I took my family of five to see the cave. Entance is 8 euros , very poorly signposted as it has an identity crisis it does not know if it is "Canyon of Aggiti" or "Alistratis's Cave" so expect a run-a-round as greek highways also do not know !Unfortunately for us we did not get a guide who had time to speak english only Greek however after paying, she ensured we knew the rules but nothing else pertaining to our visit .However we were presented with an appraisal of the features along with rules, in english, but only after parting with our money first. Have you tried to read print in almost darkness? Our party was Dutch and English we all spoke english but with only 1 copy between us all (TIGHT) it was left to one person to read the limited info to us, thus doing the work of the guide, in doing so they were asked to be quiet whilst the guide spoke to the greek people (cross talk ). We were amazed at the spectacle but understood nothing, nor were we allowed the time to really absorb the detail of the formations as it was against the rules to fall behind on the rush tour, I was repremanded in my slowness for my interest as it was outweighed by the "get the money, get em in an get em out policy". So if you want to waste half a day, your fuel ,the admission fees (80 euro) and be treated as an imbecile when wishing too enjoy the experience then go to Alistratis's cave.

The cave is simply amazing. I have already visited twice and I would gladly go back again!The tour, which lasts around 1 hour and is included in the entrance price (8 euro) is to the point, providing several useful information without making you tired.The guide was well educated and happy to answer any additional questions!There is a nearby kinda of really small zoo (it's really on the open, and you can visit for free) which is up the hill with great view to grab something to drink and enjoy fresh air.

this cave is far away my expectations, as said in my title , i believe it is the most beautiful in Greece,The tour is about one hour ,the guides are very friendly ,you can see also in about 200m from the cave a nice canyon.

The cave is big, the tour takes about 1h. Our guide was very kind and competent, answered all of our questions and translated everything in English, we also received a piece of paper with the text in our language.I would recommend you to leave the car at the Faraggi Hotel in Simvoli and take the 2km tour on foot, crossing the River Aggitis Canyon - very beautiful and it takes about 50min., normal speed.

The visit of the cave is well organized. The stalagmites and stalactites are amazing. The path is almost horizontal on concret floor. Unfortunately there is only white light used. The place would be much more impressive if red, blue and green light would be used to show the stalactites etc.

oneof the biggest caves -it's. said to be the biggest in Europe- is easy exploiting because me the guide you can have. nice sightseeing around too and a cosy cafe. interestingly delicious products to buy from the little shops around too.

This is one of the biggest caves of Europe, and because it was a kilometer of a walk to the end , and another back, I didnt think I would enjoy it, but I was totally blown away by the beauty of this cave, the colours and height of it, with beautifull colours, I had never seen such fine detail in other caves The walk is completely flat with no up or down stair, and completely easy walk. We had a great guide who explained in detail and told us that there is still at least 700 meters to be discovered. The cost was a bit expensive at 8 euros per person, but once you finish you know that it is definately worth it.The only downfall was that you were not allowed to take any pictures, not even without a flash.
