It's the castle they used to shoot a James Bond movie with Roger Moore I always loved This place with the woods the water with some fishesthe green grass where we use to picnic and playThe visit might be expensive compare to other French places but still worth itYou have a horse museum not far When you drive in the area you ll see the old Medevial style or traditional houses
This grand chateau is now part of the public domain by virtue of the generosity of the the Duc d'Alumale and what a legacy of art, and history. You can see this mueum the chateau and the Mueum of the Living Horse all in the one place. Just Fabulous.glendon1954.wordpress.com
My husband and I toured the Chateau on a rainy day in July and thoroughly enjoyed it! The self-guided tour was easy with the headsets provided at the entrance so we could both go at our own pace. We loved learning about the history of the Chateau and area in general. Following our tour of the Chateau, we walked downtown for lunch then headed back over to the Museum of the Living Horse (a little less exciting in my opinion, but great for horse lovers), then followed that with a spectacular horse show. Great afternoon and absolutely perfect for a rainy day.
When looking through manuscripts and paintings from 16th century France, i cannot feel admiration and at how things looked and were redesigned as this old castle complex was by the Montmorrency and Conde families, a short 25 kms from Paris The interior is stunning to the max, imposing in its grandeur and largeness, while outside the moat surrounding the chateau is now pushing up roses and other beautiful natural confections with gorgeous artificial lakes within the park. The chateau is unique for its art collection which hangs in galleries and features an extraordinary number of portraits. We loved the former library which is in mint condition containing original books, including Durer's Melancolia and the Book Of hours of the Duc de Berry. Chantilly is also famous for its race course and associated stud farm.
The Chateau de Chantilly IS Chantilly! One of the few furnished chateau's in France after the war,,some of the rooms can't be visited anymore but still a great visit; plus the parcs & a ride in the hot air balloon( in summer). Don't forget to visit the Musee du Cheval aswell, spectacular!!
Really excellent cultural experience. Even open over Christmas holidays with a very good Botecelli exhibition.Lovely setting with the racecourse and stables.
We took the train at Guard du Nord, and then a cab to the castle. We arranged for the taxi to pick us up later. The collections are superb. Do not miss the Apartments tour. The restaurant is ok, and the restrooms are perfect. Save time to visit the Horses' Museum. A fabulous visit. France at its best. On Mondays there are almost no tourists around. Congrats to all the Chantilly staff.
Outstanding castle and collection to visit. The castle is a must do if you are in the area. For groups, it is possible to organise a private visit which is a delight.Enjoy the tour!
