We were here to watch my daughter graduate BMT. Of course everyone is very helpful. Exciting to see all of the trainees marching along everywhere. I am so proud to be an American and was blessed to be able to witness these fine young men and women during there transformation. You do of course have to have a pass to get onto the base when visiting. The base if fairly easy to navigate. Some routes are blocked off at least during graduation times. Be aware of trainees preparing to walk across the streets and wait for them to get across. I am so glad I was able to visit and watch my daughter graduate. Plenty of things to do and places to eat during her base pass. The mini malls have something for everyone.
I attended my second usaf graduation at lackland this weekend. As usual, it is kind of hard to navigate around base. There wasn't much to do on base except eat and shop at the bx and mini malls. The gate guards were very friendly and helped with directions.
The base is really nice. We spent alot of time at the BXs since my elderly parents were with us. There is a bowling alley and movie theater but we didn't visit them. There were plenty of eating places in the BXs.
Took a chance at getting on base after being told we'd have a sponsor and calling ahead. The airman at the visitors center were very helpful and said they could give us a 3 hr. pass to see the new monument to guard dogs. As it worked out it was on the parade ground loop which also had a wide variety of planes on static display. Planes all had a story on the plane plus several stories from crew members that were on these planes. After a drive around the base looking for my old barracks from 45 years ago we called it a day as the base just like me had changed over the years.
Graduated from Here 50 yrs Ago and attended my nephews graduation this March. Quite emotional. Not the same as the 1960's but still the home of the Worlds Best Air Force. Enjoyed all the ceremonies and hope its still there 50 yrs from now.
The parade grounds is surrounded my historical military aircraft. Walking around reading about the history is always a great way to spend an afternoon. And the golf course is one of the best in San Antonio.
A very special place. Love the security they have in place. We went for a graduation. Disappointed we didn't get to see the graduating class do the run. Still a great day.
Lots of historic aircraft on display, friendly people. There is a lot of expansion going on, but it is still a nice place to visit.
OK I'm giving it 5 stars because of the occasion not really because the base was awesome. LOL! They have 2 BXs, several eateries like Subway, Pizza Hut, etc. I saw some hotels on base like Comfort Inn (not sure of names but something like that). Oh, we ate at Denny's off-base and the manager there made everyone give the graduating servicemen/women a handclap for their service!
This is the second time we have been to this base. It's clean, easy to get around, and all staff were very helpful. We are civilians who enjoyed attending two graduations. So proud of our AIR FORCE and all branches that are on this base.
