the theater São Paulo has nothing one can say nasty, excellent performances of classical and modern music, excelent orchestras there they are and the greatest conductors of the world, any day is a day to go to the Teatro São Paulo
Beautiful room with perfect acoustic! No words to describe how amazing is to listen a concert in this place! Definitely worth to visit it!
The only place in São Paulo with such an atmospherre for classical music with varied programs and real lovers.
This venue is considered one of the best in the world and I agree with this definition! Good parking, perfect halls all around to circulate, great gift shop, restaurant, bar, impeccable facilities! The concert hall itself is amazeing and the whole building was transformed from the grand early 20th century massive train station into a centre of excellence for classical music and the home for the São Paulo Orquestra. I was very lucky to be invited to a box to the first of only two concerts by Philippe Jaroussky! This was the most incredible way to be introduced to this umbeliveble place!
My family lives in Campinas, about 1.5 hours north of Sao Paulo. We brought my husbands family here and it turned into a disaster. When we first drove up we saw the most horrible sight I have seen: about 150 homeless people with makeshift homes, mattresses on the street, sleeping or openly smoking crack pipes in the middle of the day. While cops were monitoring!! I guess they only care if something gets dangerous for other people. When we got out of the car I was hit with the worst smell I've ever smelt in my life. There were pools of human pee and feces everywhere. I've gone traveled on trains in Thailand, lived through Carnival in Brazil and I have never smelt such an overwhelming stench of human excrement. When we finally got to the entrance we learned that the train station is in the same building, I'm not sure how this sounds during concerts?? We tried to get inside but were denied entry because there was going to be a concert later that day. 6 hours later!! I speak Portuguese and even tried to pay the full amount and said we would be out in 30 minutes but they still refused. Unless you are going for an actual concert I say skip this. The outside is horrendously disgusting with all the homeless people near the train station, and apparently unless you have tickets to a concert you will not be allowed inside during a concert day even if the concert is 6 hours later.
Largest and best concert hall in Sao Paulo! It's home of Sao Paulo State Orchestra but the place also hosts some other events. Old train station. Very, very nice!
one of the concert halls with the best acoustics in the world, comparable to that of many rooms in the United States or Europe, worldwide known as the Symphony Hall in Boston, the Musikverein in Vienna and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Excellent performance. Wonderful architecture. Outstanding atmosphere. There is no reason not to visit this amazing place - you can find any program matching your wallet, but be careful outside the theater.
On a recent weekend trip to Sao Paulo, we went to the Sala Sao Paulo to hear a performance by the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra which included Beethoven (yeah!) and Wagner (whatever). The Beethoven Violen Concerto featured a soloist, Isabelle Faust, playing a Stradivarius. We bought our tickets late and were tucked away on a side balcony, near the back of the concert hall, and I was prepared to have a diminished concert experience. Not true. the Sala Sao Paulo concert hall is beautiful, and the acoustics are as good as any I have ever heard, and better than most. The clarity of the musical presentation was sustained throughout the volume range, and I could not tell any difference when I turned toward the orchestra vs. looking straight ahead. My only quibble with the hall is that the balcony seats do not face the orchestra which meant turning the body or neck if you wanted to watch the orchestra. I don't understand the logic of havnig seats that don't face the stage, but on balance this did not detract from a wonderful event. We will be back, but next time I will buy my tickets sooner to get better seats...
Really gorgeous place. The programs are great and you can find many of them in a good price. The only thing is, you need to be carefull in your way out of the theater. If you're not with a car must take a cab in front.
