The house of Pablo Neruda is full of beautiful objects and eccentric rooms. The visit costs $5.000 pesos, including an audio tour in your language. After the tour, I found it a bit expensive, given that the tour takes less than an hour, but it is interesting. The house is built into the hill, hidden by trees.A good stop in Barrio Bellavista.
It's amazing that so much of the objects collected by Neruda have survived the disaster of September 1973 ! Credit must be given to his wife Matilde who restaured the place and libed there until her death in 1985. It is so wonderful to immerse oneself in the atmosphere that prevailed during the happy days when Pablo and Matilde lived there and entertained their friends. The audio-guide commentary is really perfectly written, and the photos of Pablo and Matilde in the hall are superb. More, more !
We visited the Neruda house here after visiting the poet's house in Valpo. It is very different but just as quirky and whimsical. They give English handsets with admission which bring the story of the house alive. Really enjoyed this. It is right by the Bellavista area so after a coffee, lunch and shopping .
Nice to learn some history of Neruda and see a unique property. Loved wondering through the house. You get given an audio device and go through at your own pace.
This is a great spot, not only for people who already know Pablo Neruda. It also gives a fine impression of the life in Chile at this moment.
I enjoyed seeing all three of Pablo Neruda's homes in Santiago, Valparaiso and Isla Negra. He collected some very interesting objects.
I didnt expect much, but was surprisingly nice. You go room by room and hear about the place's history and personal aspects about Neruda's life.Nothing ordinary...
