I went to this museum a couple of months ago because it had been a LONG time (elementary school trip). It is really nice and has a lot of exhibits. I actually got to see a picture of what Garrison Avenue looked like whenever my great-grandmother came through Fort Smith around 1905. I met a nice family from Australia that were travelling across the United States with their children. The museum has grown quite a bit since I was last there! There were a lot of everyday items from different times. I would definitely recommend this!!!!
I enjoyed the displays of antiques--furniture, clothing, etc... There was a lot of stuff to read but it was pretty dry and I lost interest before I took it all in. I love history but just think they could have livened this up quite a bit.
We visited the history museum while we were in town for the fair. It was a very nice couple of hours spent learning about Ft Smith. It had the courtroom of hanging judge Roy Parker and a couple of pictures showing hundreds of people watching a public hanging, and then explained why so many people would show up. We thought it was time well spent.
Very interesting museum on the history of ft smith and arkansas.....would definitely recommend it. It would be good for a school field trip.
Reasonably priced with a lot to see. Had a lot of early Fort Smith information. Had the furniture from Judge Parker's Court room. I would recommend stopping here....
This musuem has a lot of great exhibits but it has so much that cannot be seen because there is not enough room. I hope one day they can build a bigger builder down town or buy a bigger building down town and repurpose it. Overall, great history to learn of Fort Smith and it is educational and fun for all ages, it was a favorite date place for my hubby and I as this was our first date place. It is a must for any histoiry buff or any lady who loves History!! :-)
This building provides a indepth tour of this very historic city. It is a tad crowded, however, if you take the time, you will be able to see it at your leisure. The staff is friendly and very knowledge.
The museum is laid out well and has interesting descriptions of old Fort Smith. I didn't have enough time,as I was with a group,to read all of the information, but I hope to return.
We read the reviews and we're hoping for a little adventure... But got there and found out soda fountains not working, trains not currently running except on weekends, and were greeted by less than friendly employees. At that point, we decided to call it a day with this attraction.
As my wife and our friends were for the first time visiting the museum were having a great time then a lady came to us on the top floor and told us to hold it down they were taping something and we were I guess too loud sharing our experiences of what each of us were looking and reading at the time my question was if they were doing this why didn't they tell us when we purchased our tickets we would of came another day or at least knew not to speak louder than a whisper but they couldn't do this after hours instead of telling us to hold it down I'm sure we were talking little loud but this is not fair not to be able to speak over a whisper... Not ever coming back and if they are recording don't buy a ticket come back later because it is a very interesting place to visit on vacation.....
