A great place to sit overlooking our great lake. The path down to the water is a little tretcherous - but worth it. The artwork, shown here, is spectacular, especially at night.
Just a lovely scenic look out with space for the kids to play, tables for lunch, nice art, and a vigorous path to the water's edge and the Sandy Beach.
Atwater Park is a fine place for a lakeside visit -- there's a lovely children's playground, nice stretch of beach, and pretty places on the bluff from which to contemplate the water.
Try to ignore the awful statue (pictured at left) that sits on top of the bluff and go on down to the great beach below. At least the statue was donated (by someone with more money than sense or good taste) so the Shorewood tax payers didn't have to chip in for it.
Unobstructed view of beautiful Lake Michigan from the cliff top or hike the blacktop path down to the waters' edge, This is a quiet park, away from the noise of the city. We sat for awhile on a bench topside and just took in the lake's splendor.
Great time remembering my childhood, and I didn't have to prove a was a resident (or former resident). GREAT beach, GREAT sand, COLD water (even in August just like we remembered) nice public changing rooms. Will be back
From the top of the cliff you can see the beach and Lake Michigan below. Fabulous view! Enjoy a stroll down the ramp sidewalk or taker the stairs for some great exersize. There are 2 playgrounds, 1 on top and 1 on the botton. There is a lovely more secluded beach than Bradford beach in Milwaukee. Enjoy!
Atwater Park is located in Shorewood, WI which appears to be a very nice area! The houses along the street are incredible looking; worth a drive through! But across the street is Atwater Park with a scenic overlook that is breathtaking! You have a great view of the lake from left to right, and then look down and you see a beach you can walk down to. There are stairs and/or a walkway for you to either walk or ride down to the beach that has a few unused piers, a children's play area, and a view that won't quit. There's not much to do here unless you're a photographer but definitely worth a visit! If you love Lake Michigan as much as I do, then you'll love Atwater Park! When I downloaded my photos of the overlook, I could see the curvature. Very nice!
You can't see the beach from the street so only the locals seem to know this is here. It has a life guard during the summer months and is much less crowded than Bradford beach, the other beach park, on Lake Michigan in the Milwaukee area. There's a nice playground at the top of the bluff. You can take a ramp or MANY stairs down to the beach area where you'll find more playground items. Lots of fitness buffs come here just to do the stairs. It's a real workout! I love to come here for sunrise. It's a peaceful place to watch the day begin.
Atwater Beach is one of the great hidden gems along the lake front in Wisconsin. If you are not up for sand in your toes stop at the top for a great photo-op! Note: I live here and visit Atwater every day when I walk or run or bike.
