The place has considerable ball playing facilities and such, but the coolest part is the extensive trail system along the Lost River. Pay attention to where you are going and be prepared for a nice long walk in the Florida woods. We have seen various snakes, gopher tortoises, armadillos and the usual plethora of lizards and birds. You can also paddle the adjacent Lost River by putting in at the boat ramp visible from Kanner Highway.
Awesome Trails for People and their Dogs! I love to meet up with our friends and their dogs at Halpatiokee Park to enjoy a long trail walk during the cooler Florida months. It is a blast for us and our dogs. You can do a short trail or a long trail. We usually walk about 90 minutes because we are having so much fun. The park even supplies poop bags and a garbage can at the beginning of the trail area in case you forgot yours. Even though we bring water for the dogs, they do have a hose at the closest pavillion near the trail. It is a big park with many other recreational options that includes clean bathrooms that are located at the entrance and in another area of the park. ENJOY!
I take my boys here a lot. There are trails that go way back. There are baseball fields, tennis courts, soccer fields, bike trails.
I've attended many of my grandkids' soccer games at the fields and the parking is good and the restrooms are kept pretty clean.
This park has a great walking trail which takes you through various terrain from oak hammocks to swampy, jungle-like areas and winds it's way along a river. Allow yourself about 1 1/2 hours for the entire hike. The park also offers many other amenities. There are soccer fields, tennis courts, roller hockey rink, pavilions, and a great off-road biking trail.
We went back 3 times trying out different trails. It is a lovely recreational area. We tried other places but this was by far our favourite. We ended up walking our legs off! Saw the gopher tortoise 3 times out sunning him or herself. We spent 7 weeks in the area so tried a lot of different recreation parks.
A great place to get lost on a hike. Find yourself walking along the river. You may catch a glimpse of a manatee eating some of the giant ferns that grow along the bank. You may also see some otters. LOVE this place.
This is a multi use park with everything for the sports enthusiast and nature lover. Watch a local little league or soccer game paly a set of tennis and then wrap it up with a hike, run or bike along a paved or sand nature trail. Alligators, deer and other wildlife abound. A great way to spend time with family and friends.
We live very close to this park and it is one of our favorite places to walk in the morning. There are many trails to walk on and we see so much wildlife in the early mornings. So far we have seen white tailed deer, pesky little raccoons, a wild pig, a red headed woodpecker who loves to peck on the poles of the metal signs and makes a racket, sandhill cranes, mockingbirds, ibis, osprey and of course the playful squirrels. The park is always clean too.
They have picnic tables, bathrooms, bike paths, hiking paths, river for kayaking, baseball fields, soccer fields, extra parking areas and they do not charge. MY FAVORITE PLACE TO GO!!
