Love this cave! The size of it is immense. It is breathtaking. The walk is not for the fainthearted.
Great caves. I felt like I was an extra on LOTR or the Hobbit. It's jut a shame the tour guide rushed us through and people kept touching the rock formations (despite being asked not to!)BEWARE...can be a steep climb and a hard walk so wear good shoes. Temperatures in the caves are normally around 12'c
The cave was spectacular. The guide was great, patient and answered our many questions. We were a family consisting of grandmother (77), 3 teenagers and parents.I would like to suggest that they should let people know that there are some steps towards the end. My mom (77) thought she is getting to an elevatore, but she was exsausted by the many steps to and from the elevatore. There may be people with heart problems or just old, and like they say the ammount of killometers, they should mention the many stairs.
I have visited Slovenia for few days and I needed to decide if I will visit the famousPostojna cave and Predjama castle or not so much known Skocjan cave. The cave tour takes 1,5 hours and costs 15€ (its possible to buy combine ticket and visit also underground river...ticket is then for 20€). At the beginning of the tour you will go with the guide approximately 10 minutes to the entrance of the cave...later on during 100m tunnel...you will enter the cave finally. Its beautiful with many stalagmites & stalactites. The most interesting partfor me was the underground canyon of the Reka River. Its huge. Its deep. Amazing.
Going on the tour of Skocjan cave was a wonderful experience. The guide was good and the cave was impressive, especially the underground canyon. There is an elevator to take after the end of the tour, but I recommend to skip it and take the stairs up the cliffs. It's a great climb with nice views. Even if one is not very fit, it's possible. Just take a lot of breaks and use them to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
We were staying add a camping nearby, on are way to the camping we saw a big Sign showing us the caves. We were really interrested and just went. The tour was lovely, not really expensive. The guide was really good. In the beginning of the tour we were split up in to two groups, a french spanisch group and an English German group. I am Dutch but my English is really well so that wasn't a problem. The guide new a lot about the stalactites and the stalacmites. But the nature around the caves is lovely aswell.Once we were out of the caves and back to the base, we were kind of hungry, so we dicided to have a bite there. Normally I never eat add tourist places because they are overly expencive. We order two mixed meat dishes, and some drinks. It was really good and I think i anded up paying 30 euro's for 4 persons, so it was a very fairprice. Whine was 80 cents a glass and a pint was 1 euro. We were sorry we didn't have more drinks ;). I really advice eating there.
This cave is smaller, than Postojna cave, but definitely nicer. The most impressive part of the cave is a natural bridgereally. Must see.
Awesome cave, the sheer size is impressive by any standards, well worth the trip.Quite long and the walk out is up a long steep hill, which can be tiring in the summer heat.
These limestone caves have some of the lagest caverns you will ever see. There is a massive gorge with a river running through the center of the cave, and you cross a bridge spanning to gorge. It's amazing.
Even if you've seen many caves around the world, and without going into the geological explanation - you don't want to miss this one. Its size, dimensions, versatiltiy of views make it a most unique experience, dominated by the underground river which flows deep down below you. You can't take pictures of your own, and have to rely on the ones taken by others, but the walk along the narrow trails and passing on a high bridge, over a tremendously deep canyon compensates for it all. You come to immensely appreciate and respect the people who managed to construct these trails and bridge in such a special way. There are lots of steps to cover, and not a short walk, but it's worth it!!!
