This church is very appealing to the eye. It was not locked when we visited.the inside was very nice. It is amazing to think how this was built all those years ago.It is worth the effort to find this place just for the peace and quiet. And to just reflect on things.
We were traveling in the area and found Old San Miguel Mission on our GPS and decided to visit, the old mission is still closed for renovation but the exteriors are beautiful. We stopped in the Gift Shop which is also a Museum and the Woman in there spent quite a bit of time telling us the History of Old San Miguel Mission and the area, she showed us the many artifacts that were found during the present renovations. This Mission and the Socorro area are well worth a stop, this is genuine old time America.
We couldn't get into the interior because of the renovation but the exterior is worth at least a drive by! It's beautiful and if the inside looks half as good as the exterior it's going to be stunning!
The Mission is being completely updated - the new pews are hand finished, the floors, the walls and everything reflect the love of the persons doing the work. Even though it looks "closed," go around to the back and they are glad to see you.
hand carved beams, huge adobe walls, wonderful simplicity in this 400 year old mission (currently under restoration)
Love the preservation, walking trail, visitors center. For such a small monument, it was very informative & well-kept. Thank you National Parks system:)
This place is beautiful and shows you what the 1600's looked like. Very eye appealing and and just a neat place to check out.
Very nice mission from the outside. Too bad, for tourist, the interior is being renovated. People at museum and gift shop are very friendly and helpful.
the church had only recently been refurbished and restored. it was beautiful with vivid religious art.
If you have never seen a 400 year old church then you need to stop. I stopped long enough to look around outside and take a couple of pictures. It is one of those places that at least you can say you have been to. Not much to see or do.
