Sognefjoden is the longest fjord in Norway. It was a nice ferry ride. The seaguls were a treat to watch. They would wait around for titbits from people on the ride. It was pretty windy sitting on the deck. We decided to then go and sit in the sun to feel better. The food that they had served specially for us on the ferry was very good. Had a great time.
I took a five and a half hour boat trip from Bergen to Flam to see Sognefjord. I took a book along because I thought there might be an opportunity to read for some of the time and never opened it. From leaving Bergen the scenery was absolutely spectacular and I never stopped watching it, ever changing, ever beautiful and dramatic. I will return to Bergen in a different season just to see all of this again. I had a whole different understanding of the idea that the land and water can have 'moods' after this trip.
It may sound tacky, but the Sognefjord is really a place of dreams. Here you will find gigantic limestone mountains surrounded by clouds and still blue waters and, if this wasn't enough, you'll still get beautiful rocky shores crowned by traditional red, blue and yellow little norwegian houses. The boat tour is amazing, but the real jewel of this tour is a train ride from Flam to Myrdal.Don't underestimate the weather though, you will get cold even in the summer!
This was A Total Relished Surprise ! Maneuvering through the waterways of this fjord was breathtaking and a sight to behold. The magnificence of this natural Beauty is not to be missed if you are anywhere nearby.
You have to be lucky with the weather:rain is not a good company. Ferries are quite expensive, but it was worth that.
I love Western Norway. The fjords running up and down the west coast are some of my most favourite places on earth. The Sognefjord is one of these places. The boat left Bergen around 8am and proceeded north then east, eventually arriving at Flam. But not before we were able to see Norway's longest and deepest (I think) fjord in all it's sunny glory. This was a fantastic day, one that we shall not soon forget.
We have taken a ferry ride from Flam to Gudvangen thru Sognefjord, though it was over 2hrs but every moment of the ferry ride was worth it. On a sunny day water was dark blue and some places it was like mirror and reflection of mountain in water was just divine.
We had a great sea kayak adventure in a beautiful setting. We will be back. The service by Njord is real good!
We took the car ferry run by Fjord1 up the narrowest part of the Sognefjorden. We walked on the boat at Kaupanger and went to Gudvagen, up Naeroyfjorden. We parked our car at the ferry dock, bought our ticket on the dock, and walked on with no problem. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside for the whole 5 hour trip. There is a short narration about a few points of interest. It was very hard to hear, though, due to others nearby speaking other languages all throughout the English translation. We were glad we had our binoculars as there were some small animals in the water. It turns out it was Lagenorhynchus albirostris, commonly known as a white beaked dolphin. We saw them when we came over so on the way back we were ready with binoculars. There were lots of big waterfalls and beautiful scenery. Food on board was even more expensive than Norway's normal expensive restaurant food. Bring your own drinks and sandwiches, grab a deck chair, and enjoy the ride!
