It's not a light house you would make a trip to see. It's small. However, if you are in South Haven already, the walk out to the lighthouse is a nice stroll.
This red tower light is one of my favorites – especially at twilight when the pier lights come on and the sunset paints the sky. The pier is fun to walk (do be careful). During storms or winter weather, the pier and lighthouse take a beating but you can easily enjoy the view from the beach or sitting in your car. The South Haven light shines like a red jewel along Lake Michigan’s shoreline.
Everyone thinks that the beach and lighthouses are summertime treats. Well that really is far from true. You will thank yourself for treating yourself with a winter visit. Winter has its own beauty when it has a lake and a lighthouse involved. Treat yourself to the beauty of ice and lighthouses. You will not be disappointed.
Quit a nice little excision. There is nothing that is so beautiful as the beacon warning ships of the dangers of shallow water and shore. If you are a photographer or painter the lighthouse entrance to the marina is unique and scenic.
What a cold walk out the pier on the North Shore, well worth it. The view facing South to the big red lighthouse was amazing. Then again, the view in any direction from the South Haven Lighthouses is fantastic!!
My family has been going to South Haven every summer since I was a child. I'm 26 now and I still love this lighthouse and this town more than most places that I have been.
First time going in winter. Got here about noon, nice sunny day. Not to many people out. So for the first time got picture of lighthouse with no people,we come in the summer alot. We had on winter coats, I also had on hiking boots. There is sandy mud, snow, ice and some water, so walking can be fun. We walked to the end of pier, it's so cool seeing all the ice. For a look of the water, take the drive out of parking lot turn right. There is a look out park that gives you a look above everything.
It is a pleasant walk out to the light house and around the base. There is no entrance, there is water on all sides, no guard rails so hold the children's hands.
Awesome to see the ice accumulated on the lighthouse, can't wait to come back in summer to walk out all the way. Cute town also, deserves exploration this summer!
Most enjoyable lighthouse to visit. You can swim, sit on the beach, walk the pier to the end. You can walk into town if you're up for a long walk and eat or shop. Or parking is convienent at the beach for a small fee. Bathroom and small concession. It looks different depending on the weather-beautiful sunsets and amazing ice formations or just watch the boats on a calm summer day. South Haven has a nice assortment of restaurants and little shops. We go often to see what mood the lake is in and have dinner. Worth the trip!
