Wonderful historic site. Buildings and grounds from the French Indian War. Great period reenactor gave an interesting tour that was the right length. He even fired his musket! Not far off the interstate, well marked directional signs, easy to find.
I had the good fortune to visit Fort Dobbs during one of their reenactment weekends, and had a great time! I learned a great deal about North Carolina's history during the French & Indian War, and enjoyed some excellent demonstrations of 18th century cooking and musket firing demos. Some other reviewers mention that this site would be better with the actual fort, but its the staff and volunteers that really make this place memorable. This site has LOTS of potential and I am excited to see how Fort Dobbs progresses in the near future!
Went to an event and enjoyed myself. The actors were informative and were very helpful. Will come back for the next event
the first time we went to fort dobbs there was just a few things. over the past few years they have put in different things and are trying to restore and construct the fort as is was when it was built. some place historic to take the kids to on a sunny afternoon for an hour or two.
Great site with great employees and volunteers who are dedicated to historical accuracy! My wife and kids love going to the events.
They do not have major events every weekend but when they do, they are great & very interesting. To all those who have complained that there is no fort, two things: they are raising money to rebuild the fort and how about you making a donation to make it happen?? I get so sick of people who go to sites & make complaints. They are the first ones to never drop a dime in the donation box. Ft Dobbs has excellent interpreters who are very historically accurate in their presentations. They do an awesome job in spite of the fact that the fort has not been rebuilt yet. But it will happen, as their support group is working hard to raise money. So, naysayers, send in your donation to make it happen!!
Was a fun few minutes. Not much to see, though the guides are pretty good. I expected something more but alas, didn't find it. I may be a bit spoiled but was surprised to find that there is no fort here - it was, but torn down years ago.
Lucky to be there on a day featuring reenactments! The site manager gave a tour which was interesting, too.
Not sure about the date I was there but they carry a good line of work boots etc. They carry the muck boots and have a good price for them.
Stopped by for a few minutes last week. Not much to see outside of the few building present. The rail fence alongside of the road is the most impressive structure at the fort.
