This was fairly informative though a bit rushed guide to the flora on the Island. If you're interested in learning more I would recommend hiring a guide for the day who knows a bit about the spices and the flora and can take you to various places to see how they are processed.
Fort Frederick looks out from an elevated position above St George's and the main prison on the island. The views all round are spectacular, if you have already visited Fort George, you will recognise it far below across the harbour. You may also need waterproofs as the fort seems to spend much time covered in cloud (we visited Grenada during the rainy season).
Lovely walk through tropical gardens with a knowledgeable guide who was able to talk about all the herbs, tropical fruits and spices growing in the garden.
No one there when we called, garden was unkempt and not maintained to any standard. We were not expected a manicured show garden but this was a near wilderness.
You receive a short tour taking in the herbs/spices that shows the variety available and the uses and benefits of each. Cost is EC$5 per person. Found it very interesting and informative.
Well worth the trip to these excellent gardens. The tour is about 1 hour long and the guide was excellent with a sound knowledge of all the plants grown in the gardens.
learned a lot about the herbs and spices! and it was beautiful! just wish they had a book that you could buy to help remember what all the uses were!!!
Visited here in 2013, wanted to revisit in Feb 2015 but it was closed on the only open day we had. Very interesting, knowledgeable staff. It's amzing what a blade of grass or what you thought was a weed can do!
Lovely gardens full of interesting plants, fruits, spices, etc. A must-see attraction for any gardeners and an interesting and relaxing tour for non-gardeners too :-)
Lovely volunteer showed us round the small area of the herb garden which had a comprehensive collection, should have taken notebook to try to remember names of plants.
