Wine country at its finest. Accommodations were great and the hospitality was the best. The Food and Wine were exceptional. Make sure you attend the reception in the afternoon.
For the best overall experience in wine tasting, don't miss Blackstar Farms. This winery has it all, from large tasting room (with ample space in a separate room for large groups) to knowledgeable staff, horse farm, distillery, and overnight accommodations at the inn. My favorite wine was the Arcturos Sauvignon Blanc...dry white with a mild and pleasant finish.
It could be that we just hit this winery towards the end of the day and when people had already had alot of wine to drink. But this winery seemed overly loud. Almost like a rowdy bar. The grounds were beautiful. It was great to walk over to cafe and be able to purchase food after an afternoon of tasting wine!
My wife and I have been to this tasting room before. As the first winery on the Old Mission Wine Trail, it is always our first stop. The ambiance is lovely and inviting. The staff friendly and knowledgable. The wines are delightful, with an array to suit any palette. We always take something home from Black Star.
Absolutely gorgeous setting! Definitely worth seeing! Got to the tasting room soon after it opened. Had a wonderful server and we tried a variety of wine. We found several varieties that we just had to buy. The"ice" wine was delicous! This is a MUST stop!
I have long time been a fan of Black Star Farms and their Sur Lie Chardonnay. I have had the fortune to visit their wine tasting site in the Old Mission Peninsula of Michigan. Now I had the great opportunity to visit their property on the Leelanau Peninsula. As a member of their wine club, I was able to do wine tasting 2 days in a row for FREE; I got to stay in their Inn at Black Star Farms...awesome (happy hour, bottle of wine, lovely breakfast, fine cafe, lovely grounds, cute animals and more. Easy to find, great wines and foods, lovely people.
We were not impressed with this place at all. We were disappointed. We were not even greeted or recognized when we walked in. There was a girl behind the bar but, she never said a word to us. We looked around at the wines but, they had them way overpriced compared to other wineries we've visited. Also thought the tasting was overpriced. So we left to look for something else. We would not go back.
Black Star is my favorite winery with the best selection of wines. The servers are knowledgeable and friendly. There is a fee for the glass but you can bring it back for future tastings.
Love this winery. First, the scenery is lovely. This is a beautiful place.Secondly, the people who work here are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.Thirdly, and most importantly, the wine is fantastic! There is something for everyone. No matter if your taste runs from red to white, dry to sweet, you will find the perfect wine for you. This is my annual destination, even if it is only to run in and grab a few bottles (you can never just have one!). Prices are good. In my opinion, the best wine made in the U.S. and rivals many/most from overseas. You won't be sorry :)
Stopped by their Hearth & Vine restaurant for lunch last week. Great price on a pizza from their wood fired oven and a touch of their hard cider. This place has something for everyone in the family - don't miss it.
