Great and funny actors and actresses, fun shows, yummy food. I just loved the outfits, the music and everything about it. It made me feel like I was back in time. It was definitely a fun -filled day. Go to the festival. You'll love it. I hope it lasts forever. We had a great time. Loved the camel ride too. We did that in Sterling and it was a blast!
Lots of fun, especially if you are just looking to have fun or you want kids to be awed. No need to get dressed up, but there are plenty others who do and they are just so incredibly friendly. Even though it was barbarian weekend, everybody was happy to be there. It can get pricey, as most attractions do. But you could definitely get by with less than $50 per person (not including tickets), but more if you get souvenirs or crafts of if you eat and drink a lot. Especially if you drink beer or wine, it can add up.We only saw a couple of shows (which are free except for a donation at the end if you so choose, and they were entertaining and if you didn't like them, just walk to the next one. Definitely get the schedule though as it made planning your day that much easier.. All in all, we look forward to going next year and we will try top bring some family and friends.I almost forgot- get there early. Traffic backs up and the close parking lots fill up.
Great fun and activities the shows are so good. And what a great place for people watching. The Jousting is my favorite and the turkey leg lunch is my son's favorite. An experience that everyone should have.
We went yesterday on an absolutely gorgeous day weather wise.I was expecting a typical type fair ( rides, tents, food trucks, etc.). Well, the Renaissance Faire is nothing like that. It's WAY better!Set up like a medieval English town, there are stationary food shops and stores, exhibits, and shows appropriate to medieval England, circa the middle ages.Yes, it's very crowded, but not unbearably so. Many of the people that work there are dressed in the clothing of that period, and are very welcoming and helpful. Get there early, parking will be a problem, though there are huge spots set aside to do so. There are shuttles available to bring people from the parking lots to the fair itself.Be prepared to do a lot of walking, the fair grounds are very large. Also, bring a good amount of money, food and drinks ( plus store merchandise) can be very expensive. You can save money on fair entry tickets by purchasing them at selected Walgreen's ( see where on the Renaissance Faire site). You and your family will have a lot of fun! There are rides available for children, though not electrically powered. It's a wonderful way to spend a day. And, it just might interest you and your family to learn more about that period of history.....
Nice activity to do with friends and family. However, it's quite pricey. Love the outfits and many visitors come dressed in Rennaisance era clothes.
Once again, we attended the NY Ren Faire. It was an absolutely beautiful sunny day! The crowd was large, but not overbearing. The costumes were plenty and just so beautiful. We even dressed for the occasion. I love the giant live chess board! My daughter loves the archery game! Plus, all the lovely shops and those great items to purchase; make it all too tempting! We all enjoyed the food, fun, games, and entertainment. So happy to see healthy food being offered. We had smoothies, salads; along with a fruit and cheese platter! No giant turkey legs for us!!!Of course, it would not be complete, without witnessing the final joust of the day! Luckily, our sections knight won the event! All-in-all, it was a great day. Can't wait to go back next yr!!
There is nothing quite like the NY Renaissance Faire. We try to get there at least once a year. Costumes, activities, shopping. I will say this year it was more crowded than average which made it tough to get around.
Always a fun time, not your typical fair, as you enter threw the park entrance you are thrown back to a different time. Just about everyone enjoys dressing the part not just the staff working, and if you are suddenly struck with the impulse to dress up - they have a costume rentals on site. There is lots of great talents performing funny skits while dancing, juggling, story telling knife throwing and more on various stages that are scattered through out this very quaint medievil village. Mixed in between is a large variety of food stands, unique shops, crafters, and activities such as axe, Chinese star or knife throwing, (7 throws for $5) archery or a street stand where you can test out your throwing arm trying to hit a medievil heckler with rotten tomatoes. There is so much to do/ see you will need the entire day, the faire is open from 10-7 but plan on getting there to park by 9:30 for preferred parking ($10) this is the lot just across the street from the entrance. The lower lots are free and offer shuttles from the lot to the entrance area, but when it's crowded ( and it always is due to its popularity) they pack those buses tight. Walking up from the lot is always an option, but this faire is set up on natural park grounds which means grass, stone and dirt paths, with various degrees of sloping throughout the entire village. I would encourage comfortable walking shoe to manage the terrain and all the walking around for this all day affair. There is plenty to chose from for food and drink including both alcohol and non alcohol, finding a table to sit at can be rough, but if your flexible there are plenty of shaded ground space or large boulders to take a break on if you don't mind enjoying your eats that way. As a captivated audience of the faire you must know everything is expensive. 16oz water is $3, blooming onion $10, plate of dragon chips $8 ( fresh fried potato chip) sandwiches $10 dried beef jerk strip $4 - you get the idea. You can get your tickets at the entrance $25, but they offer discount for online purchase $21 or select walgreens $19. I recommend searching the web site for participatin Walgreen locations, weekend themes, schedule of events, maps and over all general idea of what's offered in shops and food so you have an idea for you day. Looking forward to going back next year.
WE usually go every labor day weekend since i was a kid with my family and later with my friends...went last year and we annoyed at the rocky slippery terrain (i was wearing low-heel sandals) i tripped and fell..ouch!!!..the lousy fake jousting...bad acting and the same shows and skits..every year!!! many of the shows were boring and not even funny!!! ps folks!! this is a renaissance faire not a casting call for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN PART 3 (A guy who looked spoke and acted rudely like a pirate!!)...A HEAVY METAL GOTH SHOW (2 gals wearing goth metal smoking pot with attitudes) CONAN PART5-(black grace jones gal nearly naked!!! brandishing a sword) A HOOKERS FEST (lot of unattractive older women with cleavages so low..it was embarrassing!)...the food was unappetizing looking sellers did not wear gloves..and there were flies/yellow jackets all over!!!..AND THE PRICES!!! WENT UP!!! UP!! UP!!..the admission..food vendors..souveniers all over-priced!! no shade..lotsa bugs...while not as awful as sands point...certainly not much..better!!..lines all over..the porto sans were filthy...also!! the parking?? well let us not go there...ever again!! ps if you want your photo taken with reenactors...you'll be asked for a tip!!..gotta tip clean the place..lower the prices hold fest in autumn!!
After waiting in traffic for over an hour and a half, a police officer stopped each car before the left hand turn onto 17A and asked where we were going..we responded " the Faire" and he said "No you're not! its closed...drive straight ahead." This was at 1:30 in the afternoon. We sat in traffic since noon. Looking at the long line of cars waiting to be told the same thing when we finally were able to turn around and head disappointed towards home was amazing. I think the Tuxedo police department just couldn't handle the traffic and said lets teach these people a lesson they won't forget so that they never come back!
