Great views over to Canada and the Cascades. Good interpretive center for the wildlife there. Quiet coves for just sitting and reading or napping too.
We went with our outdoor group and stayed the night. Our dorm room was comfortable with a shared bath. It was fun to walk around and see all the buildings and bunkers. Breakfast and dinner were included in our price which was a very good value. We just felt a little rushed having to be at the meals right at a certain time.
Water, wind, waves and a lighthouse. Beautiful park to visit. Take the time to walk out to the point. It was worth the stop.
the grounds are great and the wild deer are so close you can almost touch them. The Castle can be rented which would be great for a family or even honeymooners.
We walked the beach to the Light House. Its seemed to be deserted, to bad. Interesting history of the park with all the military housing still there.
My husband and I drive here about once a month to take our dogs and nieces on walks. The bunkers are fun and there is a lot of space to be on a nice leisurely walk . The view is real nice too. We never have camped here but they do have a nice camping area. Plus you can rent out the houses.
Have spent a February weekend at Fort Worden for the past 16 years, as mentioned in my title a great group destination. Lots of room (Officers houses are 4 - 5 bedrooms) big dining rooms and roomy kitchens for meal preparations. The houses are not fancy but very functional, and after many years of minimal maintenance it appers that money is being reinvested back into the facilities. Lots to do at the Fort itself or wander into Port Townsend and enjoy a number of good restaurants and lots of local food and flavors. Enjoy, kick back, read a book, light a fire, sip a glass of wine and walk the Fort and Beaches. Not fancy but most practical for a large group and reasonably priced.
Grab your camera and picnic for a terrific day. Definitely walk around the lighthouse and onto the pier.
It looks like they are turning the area into a college so check it out while you still can. There are a lot of things to do there and plenty of history to go along with it.
For family biking, flying kites, exploring, hiking running water-ever, this place is one of our favorites to escape to!
