This state park is great. The river is beautiful and there are lots of wildlife coming and going; we saw squirrels, woodpeckers, a gator and a raccoon. You can hire canoes and kayaks (pretty pricey really) and there's a pool that's free for campers with a cafe attached. My only issue was with the campgrounds, the sights are fairly big but very close to each other and the bathrooms never got cleaned the whole time we were there.
Brand new river walk is very well done and offers beautiful views of the best building of Tampa, both day and night. Plenty of seating places, some water works, public toilets.
The River Walk located on the Hillsborough was a great place to get in a good jog, run and/or walk. I did this every morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. The view from the Convention Center area was awesome......
The Hillsborough River park natural beauty and charm is all around. You must take a bike ride around the park and enjoy the scenery. The park is full of amenities, and is a beautiful place to hang around and spend a day or so wallowing in this natural beauty.
Downstream of the dam is tidal and fully developed. Upstream of the dam is used for a lot of recreation. The most scenic part is north of Fletcher Avenue all of which is idle speed only. Hillsborough River State Park is a great day trip for hiking and camping.
The riverwalk was under construction at the time. It looks like it will be real nice when completed.
This is a "work in progress". The good people of Tampa are in the process of creating a River Walk which will allow folks to stroll alongside the river. At the moment there are gaps which are in the process of being built. This is a great place to enjoy some peace and quiet in downtown Tampa.
The City of Tampa and County have been working to clean up the river and enhance its features....boardwalks and taxi service and signature waterfront buildings and landscaping with native plants and a dog park. Used for rowing races.
This is a beautiful river. We rented a canoe the river twist and turns and is so relaxing. The only down side is lack of bathrooms. Still a really good time
Lovely walks that the city is still constructing along the river. Free cellphone charging points along the way too! Many picnic areas and restroom stops if you need them. Take bug spray!
