Not only can you look at the wonderful clocks (and buy one), but you get a lesson on how they work, what makes a good clock vs a bad or cheaply made clock, etc. We appreciated the knowledge share and the prices were good.
Bought our clock here. Staff was incredibly informative and friendly. We had them ship it back to our home (rather than pack it home ourselves) and it arrived within about 2 weeks: before we even got back! This is, by far, the best place to purchase any cuckoo clock. They have a clock for every budget - even some above 10 000 Euro!If you're lucky, you can watch Oli wood-working on the first floor.Go here!
This store came highly recommended and I was really looking forward to buying a cuckoo clock here. We were only in Triberg for one night. We went to the shop about 5 PM hoping to make my purchase. The signs said that the shop was open until 6 PM but everything was dark and it was already closed and locked up. My business went elsewhere.
We visited this place after reading the reviews on tripadvisor. We wanted a genuine cuckoo clock and were very happy that we vsited this place. The staff gave us a tour how to spot fakes. the clocks are beautiful and each one is diffrent. They arent cheap by the way. Expect atleast 230 euros for the basic one. The clocks are tax free for non euro customers and with shipping its hassel free. I am still waiting for the clock and just recieved the tracking id from them.
Like many, my wife e-mail Oli and made an appointment to visit. When we walked in, within seconds he was a our side and asked if we were the folks from New York. Great salesman, knows his business and he does have great clocks. not an easy town to get to for a day trip, if the weather is good, come via the south, great views of the Black Forest. Going north, gets boring fast and nothing to see of interest, also the traffic is greater with a number of large trucks. The town itself, is only good if you want to purchase something from the Black Forest. Very limited free parking and every thing is top dollar. My wife did purchase a clock a few days ago, so its still being shipped. Also, there is a Post Office about 200 feet away to mail your postcards from. Make an appointment, he seems to live a great life outside the shop.
I contacted Oli before arriving to Germany, to tell him that we will be traveling to Triberg only to go to his store and buy a real Cuckoo Clock.. We got there and Oli was waiting for me and gave us a tour of the store and also showed us the difference between a fake Cuckoo Clock and an original one.. We got a beautiful one and he shipped directly to our house in USA it two a few weeks but the trip, the experience an the wait was completely worthy.. Thanks Oli for your help, keep the good work !!!!
We could not justify leaving a visit to the Black Forest sans cuckoo clock, and found this to be the best merchant - traditionally handcarved in the region. We custom ordered a clock to be shipped back to Canada - I admit panicking when it was a tad late arriving, but it did arrive in top condition - not to worry, they have a great reputation - it has wonderful construction and detail, and is an awesome conversation piece and tangible memory of our trip.
I had emailed Oli prior to our arrival letting him know when we would be there. When we arrived, he gave us a tour and took a good bit of time explaining the difference between hand carved clocks and mass produced clocks. He also said he could combine different parts of clocks if we didn't see exactly what we wanted. Well, we ended up taking several components from different clocks and combining them into one clock. The prices were good and we can't wait to hear the music in our home. This would be the only place I would recommend for a clock.
We stopped in Triberg specifically to buy a cuckoo clock for a friend and after researching online, felt that the classic, hand carved, traditional clock we were looking for would be at Oli's. We passed many other cuckoo clock stores on the way and most reminded us (unfortunately) of the garish tourist strip that is Lundy's Lane in Niagara Falls. When we entered Oli's, we were greeted by his mother and on hearing that we had come specifically to his shop, she sent us straight up to the second floor of the shop where Oli was. After taking us around and showing different styles and models of clocks, we showed him the online picture of the clock we were looking for specifically and recognizing it, said it was not in stock at the moment, but he could have it done for us and shipped out in several weeks. At that moment, my wife(who had no intention of buying one for ourselves), staring at the corner of the room exclaimed, 'there is our clock!' Oli told us that it was a very traditional, classic, old style clock. So without further ado, we added 'our clock' to the order and he arranged shipping back to Canada for us. (You can see it hanging directly behind us, mounted on the dark plaque we also purchased with it). It is now classified as a 'family heirloom'!
Very nice place to stop in. The clocks here look more original than some of the other stores on this block.
