I started at the north trail head. I'm glad I had a trekking pole with me because the first approx. 1.5 miles is ascending the trail. There were some trail runners but all of them had started at the south trail head. I think the ascent is more gradual from the south side.
Fantastic hike, not too long, not too short. Beautiful views, great Aspens. Don't miss Comet Falls - it's not marked and worth the extra 10 minutes to get there. From the west trailhead, follow the trail to the north of the bridge. Visited after a big rain and the falls were fabulous.
A nice 3.5 mile loop above the city of Telluride. There is some steep elevation gain going up and steep drops coming down. It ends on Tom Boy Road which can be busy with dirt bikes and jeeps coming down from the pass.
Loved this trail. It had lots of variety. The initial uphill section is a bit strenuous for those who don't hike a lot or those not used to high altitude. The view at the top is amazing. The walk down is just as lovely.
this is great about 45min up and 20 down...great to do every morning if you like to move early...even in the snow it is very easy to walk..the worst part is taking the steep side up but your butt will look sooooo good
Three years in Telluride were beautiful . . . but also very hard. We moved there for work (not for play like so many) and I was working a lot. The trailhead for Jud Wiebe was about a four minute walk from our front door so it made it possible for us to get off of work after a long day and still get out and enjoy a quick, strenuous, beautiful hike many summer afternoons. I'm not one to take the same trail twice . . . and I'm especially not one to take 'out and back' type of runs or hikes. The Jud Wiebe trail has so much diversity and so many great views from different angles and, best of all, makes a great loop. So it never grew old for me and became a great escape for many late afternoons.
Great views of Telluride - and surrounding area. The north trail is for hikers who love to climb and the Aspen grove halfway up the climb was one of the highlights for me. You have Great views when the trail levels off and there is a nice seating area to take in all the clouds rolling in the early afternoon during the summer. The climb down was easy. Parking is on the road but there was amble spaces when I came after lunch. This hike is very popular with the locals and can be crowded. I took my time and complete the hike in a little less than two hours. I love that it's free too.
Enjoyed this trail, because of the beautiful views. Being from flat Kansas this trail and a little strenuous for us. The only thing I didn't like about this trail was the the we did the trail there were SO many flies landing on us--that drove me nuts. The bug spray didn't seem to help too much.
we love hiking this trail. It is beautiful , especially in the fall! It is a hop ,skip and a jump away from the gondola and is not to be missed!
Been hiking the Jeb to and from both ends for 25+ years. Wonderful views, lovely pine forest and other trail options.
