I visited "Piazza Ercole" in the evening and I was fascinated by this place... beautiful streets, cafes, restaurants ... you can taste authentic Italian foods...are really excellent I love them, local specialty Torfuffo that is ice cream filled with chocolate cream or just sit with a cup of italian coffee or good glass of wine and look back passers ... evening with authentic Italian atmosphere:-)
By finding this Piazza, you find the centre of the Centro Storico and all those visual treats that you are searching for in Tropea. So elegant!
Why not sit at any of the cafés and sample a Tartufo di Pizzo ice cream bomb? Or a large aperol spritz, or refreshing beer and watch all the locals and tourists mingling in a pretty harmonious spot. It's a lovely town which manages happily to take the hoards and mix them together whilst still retaining its charm. A great evening location.
Tropea is an ancient city in calabriaIt is interesting and with beautiful Historical buildings the walls that were used to protect the city s date back to 1000AD there is a maze of porticoes, courtyards, luxuriant gardens, steep steps and quaint lanes that run up to lovely, elegant small squares. The eighteenth-century Tocco mansion should also be seen, Also the Toraldo mansion , a lovely aristocratic home .The drive was an adventure with its narrow steep roads that are crazy even by italian standard, these roads were made for horses not cars.
Piazza Ercole is a perfect place to grab a tartuffo and people watch. There are several cafes and restaurants to choose from to sit down and enjoy a meal or some coffee or dessert. The place gets quite busy in the evening (during the day between 12 and 4, it is quite dead, as this is siesta time). The atmosphere is relaxing and it smells like the beach - there is a viewpoint at the end of the piazza to look out to the sea and the road below. Wonderful!
