Best Historical temple to visit. Temple maintenance and securities are too good. Locates within the city.
This temple is located in the centre of city which is easily accessible by all means of transport. This is the place of million million rupee treasure! A great place to visit. Dress code restrictions apply.
Beautiful temple and a huge temple complex. The main deity is a huge one requiring 3 doors to see the deity. There is an itneresting side temple with pillars that are tuned to an octavewhen tapped. You have to wear a Dhoti and no shirt when you go inside and can come prepared or hire them. You cannot carry your mobile phone and will be frisked on entry. If you buy the special ticket you will get a can of Aravana Prasadam so you do not have to buy that seperately. People with disability can enter through the South entrance 9South Nada) which is at ground level and so you do not have to climb steps.
Such a rich and a divine temple, but a few little things that can hamper your experience. You're not allowed to carry mobiles, charges, pen drives into the temple. Men're not allowed to wear shirts and pants, a dhoti is the only dresscode you shall be allowed in. There's a cloak room at the entrance of the temple, and the staff there are not friendly at all.Now enough of all that, the positives. The place is located very near to the bus stand and railway station. It gets pretty hot in the summer, so an early morning visit is recommended. There's a pond outside the temple, which's currently under maintenance. Inside the temple is pretty huge, with long corridors. We had to wait in the queue for about 30 minutes to have the dharshan of the deity. However, there's an 150 INR priced ticket, that can help you bypass the queue. The ticket also entitles you for some prasadh and a photo of the deity. The main deity is a huge one and there are three doors across which the deity is spanned. Interestingly, the priests were not trying to milk money from the devotees, unlike the other big temples. Security (which is a pain for the devotees), but still has to be appreciated and is top notch. An armed policeman every 50 meters approx and all high tech metal detectors are placed. Thanks to the hidden treasures (literal treasures ;) ) of the temple. Worth a visit, in case you're at trivandrum.
Holy place for Hindus, very neat and clean, visit the temple early in the morning for better experience.
The recently unravelled treasures have made this temple the richest holy place in the world and so has added charm to the city and its erthshile rulers the Maharajas of Travancore the custodians of the temple.

This is a big temple. For entering the temple, men have to change their clothes and wear dhotis, and females have to come wearing saree or wrap a dhoti on their dress if they wear any dress other than saree. Dhoti is available for sale outside the temple, but there is no changing room. You cannot carry any electronics item (even mobile charger and headphones) inside the temple. Locker is available for these items, but you have to pay for every item, means you cannot deposit mobile- charger-headphone paying a single fee, you have to pay for three different items separately.
One of the Richest temples in India - Visited with family in June-2014 - very big temple and need to walk for long distance for the darshan from main gate - Better to take other gate for darshan , rather than main gate as it is easy way to darshan Dhoti is must for Gents , so prepared for proper dressing code while entering the temple darshan will take 30 mins - one hour depend on the crowd - not a tourist friendly place as you are heavily charged for keeping your valuable /dresses on rental by temple management
Huge corridors. A feeling of bliss and peace can be experience upon entering the temple. Devotees are supposed to be dressed as per temple regulations to be able to enter the temple. Gents should wear a Mundu (Cloth wrapped around the waist) and ladies are allowed to wear saree only. Any lady wearing a salwar khamees would be allowed inside the temple only if they wrap a cloth around their waist. Earlier outside the temple devotees could hire cloth to enter inside the temple, but now you have to buy a cloth which cost between Rs 60 to 120. Men wearing pants and shirts definitely not allowed inside the temple. You are not allowed to bow down before the lord as the lord is lying down, devotees are not allowed to bow down unlike other temples. Mobiles and purse not allowed inside the temple. Cloak roams are available outside the temple.
