Have just enjoyed a splendid evening in the Empress Suite at Towcester Racecourse being entertained by some excellent greyhound racing.I always remember greyhound racing being a rough and ready experience, not this time. The Empress Suite provides a three course dining experience of merit served by attentive and polite personnel for a very reasonable £38.50.Tote representatives are on hand to take bets at your table and explain the intricacies of gambling upon canine athletes.Add to this ample free parking and courteous staff throughout the course, the costs involved represent great value for money.Any negatives? Only one, on this occasion, non-functioning cash machine on-site. Make sure you fill your wallet before arrival. What I really love about Towcester Racecourse is the fact that entrance is free!Top quality horse and greyhound racing for free, even the parking, in this money-grabbing age.Excellent work Towcester Racecourse, you will see us again and again and again...
I have to say after years of racing, Towcester races on Boxing Day is best avoided!Too many punters, the course clearly can't cope with! Trek across a muddy field (car park) and was absolutely plastered in mud by the time we got in!Overall experience was crap! This is a great little Course and one I have visited lots but never again on Boxing Day.
I went to the first greyhound racing night, and it was a fantastic evening!!! Didn't have to spend a lot and won on most races, the atmosphere was amazing and all the staff on the bars, food areas and bookies were very helpful. If I wasn't sure about something they were hands on to help especially a chap Billy I think his name was on the bookies. Definitely be going again and great family fun or night out with your friends. :-)
Towcester Races make a good day out especially as they have lots of meetings where the entrance is free, they have recently added a Dog track and this is also free entrance. For horse racing lovers its not the best track for viewing, but it still is a good day out. plenty of food and drinks outlets available. Can a times be a long wait to get out of car parks.
Had an evening here with family in the empress suite, fab food, great service and loads of fun ...the staff from taking the bets to serving the tables were very attentive ...Will be making a return visit soon ! p.s without the food and being indoors admission is free
Amazing food, fabulous service from Tom our waiter, guys taking the bets were astounding (thank you Louis). Recommend this for a night out.
A fun day out every boxing day for the family. Suggest getting down to the track edge and get some mulled wine and chestnuts to keep the cold away. The bookies are all welcoming enough although the queues encourage you to go quickly. Food and food is a little pricey for the captive audience but fine if you win a bit on the horses. You only pay to get in on Boxing Day and ladies day and it certainly creates a better atmosphere as people get more dressed up and have a lovely time. Would suggest these for racing newbies simply for the more welcoming atmosphere.Parking is on grass so be aware in the winter if the ground is wet thst your rear wheel drive cars might struggle. There are plenty of people about helping push the odd one that struggles but could tarnish an otherwise enjoyable day.Toilets and indoor bar are available although busy between races. I'd suggest nipping jn during a race for immediate service. If it rains - get wet! There is limited shelter so be aware of this. If the weather is too bad they will cancel so not normally a problem.
Went to the racecourse for a night of dog racing and had heard good things about the track. It was a lovely setting and was really well done, lovely venue and spacious and getting served at the bar or betting kiosks was no trouble at all.The track isn't very close to the pavilion, but a big screen is provided as another option. The food from the van was very good and tasty and overall the prices weren't too bad. With free parking and entry it was good value and the race card was £2.50 but came with a free £2 placepot bet, so couldn't grumble there either.All-in-all was a good, fun, evening where we all had a good laugh and a little gamble, definitely worth a visit!
First time at the dogs, went for the VIP package, 3 course set meal. Had a table of 6, the food was excellent and value for money. The viewing of the track is very good and even though it was very cold a big crowd turned out. Definitely worth a visit and we will be going again. Recommend this for a group night out.
I knew Towcester racecourse is great for horseracing so thought I'd try the greyhounds with a meal included. The restaurant is fabulous, the food is excellent, the staff are smart, courteous and helpful, alround the restaurant couldn't be faulted. However because the tables are not tiered and the windows are quite obstructed, the only way to watch the greyhounds is via the monitors, or get up from your table every 15 minutes or so and go to the balcony to watch the race, not very practical when your trying to enjoy your meal. Once I had finished my meal I ventured downstairs to watch the racing. The facilities downstairs are equally as good with excellent bars and betting facilities and admission is free. However once again the dog track is the width of the horseracing track away, you cannot get trackside to the dog track, which is not ideal if you are an enthusiast.
