This is a must see! Can't believe its in Nebraska! It is a small hike to it, but it is patched on wooden plateform.
Neat place to visit, we've been there several times in the last 4 years, but on nice summer weekends, the place is full of drunks that stop there on their float trip down the river. Lots of cussing and down right crudeness, never mind the signs that say no food or drink up to the falls, doesn't slow them down a bit on taking their booze up there to spill on you when they stumble into you. I'd advise go during the week or earlier in spring or later fall when there are less drunks around. Don't plan on coming back any time soon.
what a beautiful spot. take some time to visit it. float the river, stop and spend time watching the falls. nice walk up to it.
We rented kayak's and traveled down the Niobrara river. Was a beautiful day. We chose the 4 hour ride. We stopped at the water fall. I understand it is the highest in Nebraska. Very pretty and fun for the kids to get wet. Go Nebraska!
Arrived there by kayak... so can't speak for the roads... area well maintained & beautiful. Stay on the path... lots of poison ivy around.
The highest waterfall in Nebraska is beautiful. And the walk to it is easy and beautiful too. Hop in and take as shower in the falls!
Ahhhh, what a nice refreshing cool-off int he falls. The water is chilly but well worth the shower if it's hot outside… and it was warm the day we went. The entrance fee is small and the hike over the river pleasant.
We stopped at Smith Falls on our Nebraska Road trip. This is a delightful little park with a lovely waterfalls. The staff was friendly and helpful. The walk to the falls was easy. The park is well kept. It looks like it would be a great place for a picnic.
Great scenes but better car directions in area would be helpful due to the large amount of walking. The walk to the falls was very accessible and plenty of photo opportunities
Camping here was good. Check in after hours (4:30!) was a bit of a concern since there was no staff on hand to check us in. Call ahead to set something up. No access to firewood or shower tokens (3 min for 75 cents) after office hours either. Large campsites. River flowing right past the campsite. Walk to the waterfall doesn't even qualify as a hike. Beautiful though. Stayed here on the way to the badlands and black hills. Good stop.
