If you like standing in a slow moving line for a bag of clam cakes and a cup of chowder with more potatoes than clams this place is for you. Iggys has worked hard to destroy the competition by the surrounding restaurants by preventing them from offering sidewalk service. It is an institution in Oakland Beach but if you make the trek to Point Judith the quality and selection at Aunt Carries buries this place. The beach has undergone a lot of renovation and besides the locals appears to have attracted a lot of the Providence population, being the first beach with a view south of the city. During the Summer Cruisin' Bruce Palmer, a local DJ, will host a classic car meet every Tuesday afternoon/evening.The Top of the Bay has got a great view w/ an upstairs bar that's open during the Summer. The area is definitely lower income but guess what, you can't get closer to the water for a cheaper price, so buy and improve!
The area is an area that you want to avoid. In the 1930's and 1940's it was summer shacks for people to have a place to go to escape the triple decker's (tenements) of Providence. If it the area still was like that it would be fine. Now that the houses are permanent housing, the area is a ghetto. The public sector employees of Warwick do not clean the beach. The beach in this part of the bay is closed every time it rains because of high bacteria. There are a few restaurants in the area which I don't consider any worth while patronizing. We went to Iggy's once and I don't see what the people are raving about. It is low quality seafood joint. It is more a clip joint than an eatery.
Small but good for a short stay for the day if you are by an airport hotel - little too much seaweed
Te beach is small but nice. Contrary to other reviews it was clean. Methinks those flat landers are spoiled by New England's clean beaches- Stay outta New Jersey.
Lovely beach, great atmosphere during summer, always seems to be something going on. Car shows on Tues evenings. Beautiful sunset around 7/7.30pm in June. Fab playground for children. Great way to spend time.
A lovely place to seat and relax and enjoy the ocean and the view in all seasons. If your hungry, there are a few good eating establishments or bring a lunch and sit on the lawn. Maybe enjoy one of the summer concerts.
I like coming here it is fun for the family. sometimes its closed for bacteria in the water.. but at least they test it.....
Nice proximity to the beach, affordable, great service BUT...if you've had seafood elsewhere in NE this one is not in the same league. The seafood platter is a meal for two but the whole-belly clams are small, the scallops are those less expensive bay scallops (not the sea scallops) and the fish is cod and not the more flavorful haddock. Emphasis on production, not quality.
I wish people that visited would pick up their trash! Oakland Beach is a beautiful place but not when people visit and make a mess!
View is simple yet peaceful and still. Quiet relaxing view of the bay. The rest is shanty, unkept houses with junk in yards. No attraction to go there outside of Iggy's. Food as good as Narragansett's. We far surpass view, attractions and cleanliness. We should be open all year too.
