This museum is interesting - but mostly to the visitor who understands the myth, the legend and the spirit behind the green drink. You will find nothing here that you cannot also see and read in books on the subject. The interesting part is the authenticity - to be close to original bottles, glasses and fointains, to stand face to face with genuine paintings and graphic prints and posters, the latter being here in their original large format, shining bright in yellow and red, shouting with huge letters like art nuveau banners.
We visited the Absinthe Museum as part of our Vincent van Gogh experince in Auvers sur Oise and found it a total waste of 4.5 euros each. It is only one room (upstairs so it cannot be seen from the reception where you pay) with posters and silly displays which actually mean nothing and tell you nothing. The whole visit could take you about 5 minutes. There is no literature given, not even something you can keep as a momento. The lady at reception, however, is absolutely charming, spoke lovely English and was very welcoming - but nevertheless a complete waste of time and money.
Alcohol has always had a strong connection with both culture and the time period in which it was prevalent. Absinthe is just that. If you are interested in french history or art, absinthe provides a window to both. This museum houses extremely rare original posters and antiques in pristine condition. If you talk to the curator she is perhaps the embodiment of the green fairy herself and has an incredible depth of knowledge on everything absinthe. It's definitely worth the visit when you are in town!!

This unusual museum is dedicated to Absinthe -- the rise and fall, the uses and abuses, the apparatus and applications of this alcoholic drink, especially in France during the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum is operated by a woman who has studied absinthe as an historic and social phenomenon -- very interesting presentation and displays.
