La Iglesia es un verdadero tesoro colonial. Impresionantes altares y arquitectura icónica. Es un hito para recorrer la historia de la iglesia colonial y sus expresiones artísticas. Vale la pena.
I come to this church every time I come to Guatemala. The purpose is to see my family Saint, Saint Jude Thaddeus. Aside from that, the history of the church and the entire structure is a breathtaking showmanship of the architecture, devotion, and dedication to religion, Saints, and worship. The church contains many personal relics and historic moments. This is a MUST SEE
La Merced is a Catholic Jesuit church and decorated with some amazing hand made religious statues dating ages ago when artisans were sent from Spain to 1) select the wood to be used, 2) carve the statue, 3) paint the wood to give it a "flesh" color, 4) special artisans to work on the "faces" to make them look real live, 5) make the colored paints from special natural elements, 6) exquisitely paint the "garments" on the carved statues, sometimes using real gold. Truly these statues are worthy of studying
easy to get to. worth the trouble. don't miss!!!!!!!!!
A beautiful example of a colonial church has it could have been seen in Antigua Guatemala during colonial time.. As the church has been transported from Antigua to Guatemala after the city has been moved to Guatemala City
The façade of this church is so stunning! Well worth a stop and see. Be mindful that it is still a working church and that weddings and mass occur frequently here.
This is one of the must sees in Antigua. The yellow church stands out and this is probably the best place to go for Easter survices.
A great and unique surprize. All the carvings are from La Merced, Antigua and were transfered to Guatemala City when Antigua was abandoned. A masterpeace and a must go to visit when in Guatemala despite the fact that Guatemala City is not a popular atraction.
Many get confused with La Merced that is in Antigua. But they are very different. This one is the one in the City and its in a dumpy part of town. But it is worth the look. Although Antigua is the place to go.
