Really wish our grandkids were with us. Just a nice short trip to enjoy a step back in time. Certainly not something you can do just anywhere. The train stops and you get a chance to stretch, eat you picnic lunch and head back, in reverse. Try to pick your weather. The train is truly authentic and not air conditioned.
I think the W & W is a neat family activity, but I don't think it's worth the price of admission. Cut the price a few dollars and it'd be a better value. $12 for a 45 minute train ride forward and back is not worth it. Plus, when you cross over rt. 48, very few houses decorate with Christmas lights. The highlight is the beginning in the Brookemeade section. I would suggest that if you are in a large party, sit side by side. When the train reverses, switch seats, so you can see houses on both sides. My 22-month old son loves trains, and he didn't enjoy the ride like we expected. He DID love the souvenir shop inside the station that is stocked with a good amount of Thomas stuff.
We drove up from Virginia for the Holiday Express. The staff were great. They were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back.
A group of senior citizens went on the railroad this past Sunday afternoon. Since we had a whole group of 48 people, they reserved the first car for all of us. All the seats were made of the old-fashion rattan. There were a lot of families that went on this ride also. When we got 30 minutes into the ride, we stop along the river at a picnic area for a rest stop. One family even had a birthday party there for their youngster. You could pack your own lunch and have time to eat it at the river. Plenty of tables and benches sprawled along about 2 blocks. When we return to the train, we just had to turn our bench seats the other way, and we proceeded back to the station. What an enjoyable afternoon.
Very good for an afternoon with the kids. We went at Christmas and Santa and Mrs. Claus joined for the ride...kids had a blast!
What a hidden gem of an attraction just outside wilmington. Buy a ticket, pack a lunch, and enjoy the scenery on the way to their picnic grove. Most trips include a 20 to 30 minute layover at Mt Cuba adjacent to the creek. Here you are free to enjoy the scenery or have a nice picnic lunch!
This was a nice relaxing diversion. The train ride was 30 minutes out to Mt. Cuba picnic area...a 20 minute picnic...and then 30 minutes back to the station. This railroad is totally volunteer run and all the volunteers are very enthusiastic, helpful, and friendly. This is a very nice activity for families.
Riding the good ol' train felt really nostalgic, and my little daughter really liked the 90-minute train ride here. Visiting here during autumn is really recommended, since the autumn-leaf tour was absolutely fantastic!
We took the train trip with our 2 year old grandson who is in love with trains. This attraction is run by volunteers who do an excellent job of making it a wonderful experience.
A must see if you're in the Wilmington area! The autumn leaf tour was breathtaking. Cannot wait to visit again!
