If you've ever been to Vieques, you know how hard it is to name a favorite beach but this beach IS paradise. LOOOOVE it.
This is a great beach for lounging and swimming; the water is calm and easy to get in and out of. There's not much shade, so it's wise to get there early to claim a spot under palm trees.
Every beach we tried was full, but this one still had some private little spots to enjoy. The sand was perfect, and the water was clear. Still, seemed more crowded than when we were here 7 years ago.
This beach had calm waters and would be great for snorkeling or swimming, but there wasn't a whole lot of sand to lay on and it was surprising crowded. We checked it out and went elsewhere.
Secret beach is easy to get to and very pretty. Nice swimming and we found some decent snorkeling there, despite it being a bit windy and wavy. There aren't many spots with shade, so get there early. Our spot had quite a few sandburs.
There is little shade here so come prepared. There is great snorkeling but you have to swim way our almost to where a reef goes across the opening to the bay. There are some old sea encrusted pipes teaming with fish on the shore side of the reef but if you go on to and over the reef you can see the big boys.
We all enjoyed this beach area, the seclusion and the snorkeling opportunities at the entrance of the bay.
Secret Beach (Plata Prieta) is smaller than some of the others, but far less-traveled. You turn right off the road to Caracas and descend down a hill where there is a small parking lot. It's a short walk further downhill to the beach. While I think Caracas is the best beach on Vieques because it attracts so many different audiences, Secret is my favorite because it is more secluded and the surrounding bay is more dramatic. If you are ending your day at all the beaches, I highly recommend visiting Secret just before the sun starts to set. The light will be less-intense, allowing you to really enjoy the scenery around you.
This beach was my favorite on Vieques. It has turquoise water and powder like sand. There are little shaded nooks between the palm trees and beach vegetation if you arrive early.
The beach is not a secret; hasn't been in a long time. It was alright - but really, IMO, not as nice as many other beaches in Vieques.
