Spent two+ hours and was exhausted by the end. The African Child Soldiers, the Strange Art exhibit, and the permanent collection took most of the time, although the Knights thing was pretty intense in its own way. Strangely morbid themes provide an undercurrent to this entire museum, and why not. Wow.
visited with young grand children (7 and 9) last month. I was not sure what to expect (having last visited some 20 years ago) but we were delighted with the professional presentation and condition of the museum. The admission price was very moderate and the amenities included a cafe and gift shop. My only disappointment was the very limited, but well done, display of knights and armor from the former Higgins armory. The armory had hundreds and hundreds of pieces yet the museum displayed perhaps a few dozen. Each gallery was nicely done with professional docents who obviously cared about their positions and were more than willing to engage us in meaningful conversation about the art work. Nicely done WAM!
Not to be compared with major museums like Boston or Guggenheim in NYC, this is a lovely small museum just off the highway in Worcester, MA. They have events and varying exhibits so check what's in house during your visit. The museum building itself is lovely and easy to navigate, there is an elevator as well but it's quite walkable. Don't miss the gift shop which offers very nice items, but if you need lunch or coffee, check the cafe hours or plan to visit somewhere else nearby before or after your visit. Parking is decent, mostly behind the museum.
Whenever I have guests from out of town I always bring them here. Many years ago one friend upon visiting was amazed at how wonderful this museum was and asked me how many people lived in Worcester. This museum is a gem. The Flora in Winter is an especially nice escape for people as local clubs and florists design floral arrangements using a painting as a guide.
So many different things to see! Much more than I expected. Lovely paintings ( my main interest) and a great lunch outside.
I think it's first Saturday of the month, and must enter before noon, but it's free - it's even worth the $ if it's not that time - amazing artists - I've brought my children as youngsters and they totally enjoyed themselves
Well-curated regional museum with a good representation of most European eras of painting. Nice gift shop and very friendly staff.
Eerily empty and an undistinguished collection. Dusty relic of the past, and it appears their classes are overpriced for the economic level of the community.
Monet!
W.A.M has truly great exhibits from all types of artists. I can spend all day here and still be interested by all the wonderful works, all bases are covered here! You can come here with any art perspective and still appreciate are the varied works.
