Great place for pick your own options, or skip the trek up the hill and fill your bags from the bins at the store. The store sells nice gifts as well as doughnuts you will devour by the boxful, before you leave the mountain.
Carter Mountain is a treat for all ages. Apple picking over scenic views, live music on certain nights, patios to drink wine and have a picnic, and space for little ones to run around. The only downfall is the traffic on popular days- the cars stretch both up and down the mountain! So plan on visiting before or after primetime hours. Otherwise, WHY HAVEN'T YOU BEEN THERE YET?!
We take appetizers and buy wine to enjoy the 360 degree view from the deck overlooking the Blue Ridge with out of town guests. We love their peach cider dipped doughnuts in June. We buy crates of apples and sometimes we pick our own. We go several times a year for photo shoots, delicious fruit pies and shopping or just to breath the good air. A highlight for all our visitors. Especially for the musical events. On Rte 53 a short drive past Monticello.
One of the highlights of summer is the Thursday evening events at Carter Mountain. Music, great views, good crowd ! fun for families with young children, university students or retirees. Buy your ripe peaches and cider donuts and make one of the best desserts in town.
Carters Mountain is a great place to visit and during the Apple Season you get to go and pick your own Apples or if you don't want to walk among the Apple Trees then they have bins of apples all ready picked for you.You can get Fresh Apple Cider and food and climb the Lookout Tower to get some great pictures of the surrounding country side.Take a lunch with you or purchase your things to eat there and you will have a great time.
Love this place. Can get a little crowded and there might be a bit of a walk sometimes but love to come here and pick myself some great apples to take home. Make sure to pack a lunch. After picking sit down and eat with a glass of wine. Or you can do some tasting in their wine tasting room. If you don't like to pick your own they have apples in bins. Just bag em and go. But its so much more fun to pick your own. Make sure you bring a wagon and some chairs or a big blanket.
Carter's is a place we love to visit every year! We bring lots of family & friends each fall to go apple picking. They have a great orchard, plus stores with food, delicious apple cider, and homemade goodies. Don't miss the apple cider doughnuts! You pay for the apples you pick and they do accept credit card. You can bring your own bags (like reusable shopping bags) or they have plastic grocery bags for free. It can be rough terrain so wear sturdy shoes!
Watch out for those donuts. You can't eat just one! Beautiful view of the surrounding area, worth the short drive from UVA to get some fresh cider and apples.
If you are looking for a great trip to take with your family or some friends then it is worth the drive to carter mountain orchard. I would check online and try and make the trip around the time that they are having either their apple or peach festivals.
This place is gorgeous. If you go during peak season be prepared to sit in a line going up and down the mountain. You can pick certain apples at certain times. The donuts are out of this world! We go every year !!!
