While in Étretat, it is worth stopping by and visiting this church at the top of the cliff. Though it doesn't have the glamour of some of the other churches in France, it definitely has its charm and history.
Nice church on top of the cliff, fairly easy to climb up so a must see if your going to etretat. We went in the evening and lied on the grass outside -the view of the sea and skyline was lovely.
After a long drive from Belgium through the jungles and wide lands colored with yellow flowers, we didn't expect to face such amazing cliffs in the coast. It is definitely worth to visit this place. It is close to the Mont-Saint-Michel as well. Try the ice cream over there specially the apricot taste ;) one more notice, don't be surprised if you get back to your car and face tones on Seagull chicken-pee spread on it!! Anyways, the weather is amazing in April and if you be lucky, the sun weather would make your day unforgettable. Have a blast.
What a shock to discover that the original chapel (built by the people of Etretat), was destroyed by the Germans occupiers during the War AND it was sold privately so one one can visit inside or worship in this little chapel. Only on odd days during peak season. The Notre- Dame- de- la-Garde , located on the cliff in Etretat was originally erected in 1854 and rebuilt in 1950. It is in a beautiful location for people to see and enjoy the fantastic views and amazing sunsets.Walks around the cliffs are amazing too. Here are some of the routes to see the chapel1. - along the main path from the town of Etretat. 2. by Car. 3. Tourist train from the centre of the town -every hour from 9 - 6/7pm. Cliff walks: We used the little train to get us up there and then returned 2 hours later. During this time we walked quiet a way and took a little path down the side which led to steps. When the tide is you have to climb up again so not for the faint hearted.
