Astonishing baroque and rocoro style (facade). It stands itself very imponent at Piazza Duomo and the whole scenario is breathtaking. Observe the statue of San Paolo on the right. The interior is huge with chapels one of them devoted to Saint Lucia another of Sacrament with beautiful frescos.A must see.
Not much to say for this wonderful cathedral. Just admire it and enjoy it. Located in the middle of one of the best square in South Italy is a must to visit.
This cathedral was built on top of an ancient Greek temple dedicated to Athena (Minerva), whose columns can still be seen both inside and outside it. It has some wonderful chapels, the entrance fee is very low, and together with the beautiful piazza outside, is a sight in Siracusa (on the Ortygia island) very much worth seeing.
To be honest, there are more beautiful churches in Palermo, and many of them are free. But this is probably the main church in Siracusa, and it's just 2 euros to enter so I would still recommend it. It's interesting that one can see how worn down some of the columns are inside, and in need of repair, as a sign at the entrance admits. The outside of the church though is immaculate and beautiful, and the plaza itself is spacious.
The square is amazing, the Cathedral was originally a Greek Temple and the original columns were retained, you can see them better inside. It's a medieval style interior. Full of character, a must visit location!
It is OK cathedral, especially in comparison to many others in Italy. The building, like many others on the island were sand blasted which made them look like new.
Having seen many churches in Europe this one is OK but not really spectacular. The outside and piazza are definitely the better part. Inside is not real elaborate compared to some but does have some really spectacular huge old columns. Worth the 2 euro fee? Not sure considering not a whole lot to see. The piazza and city itself have some great charm.
the Duomo itself is very impressive. But also reading and seeing the ancient history and the relation to the Greek temple. Make sure you read the history before visiting.
Moderately interesting Duomo, but the best part is the spacious piazza. Grab some gelato while sitting in the square.
This is an extraordinary survival from so far into the past. Both the exterior and the interior are to be inspected closely for all their architectural beauty and intracacies. We went on a Sunday morning for the 1100 am service to feel the building " in action". Other service times may be better but this helped give building added atmosphere.A very special building in a very special piazza.
