This park is just over an hour from Taipei by car but it is rare to find so many rock formations in the same place so worth making the effort. If you like nature and geological formations then you will love this place. As an ex-geographer I was fascinated and the six year old we had with us was also interested so I would say this is a good place for families. We spent about two hours wandering around and looking at all the varied shapes etc.It can get very busy and there were long queues for photographs at the most popular rocks but to be honest you can still get a great shot by standing in a different location and avoid the queue. It seems that many local people think they can walk where they like and if this continues the area could be damaged which would be a great shame.
We joined a tour in Taiwan. Yehliu Geopark was part of the itinerary. This park is located just outside of Taipei. The park is worth a visit if you happen to go to Taiwan. The rock formations are something worth seeing to be amazed with what nature can do over time. Combination of erosion, sun, sand and ocean water over thousands of years created holes and rocks in the shape of giant mushrooms, queen's head, hills, birds, candles, etc. There are fossils in the rock bedding and pot holes. The whole topography is truly a sight to behold.Although this is a tourist spot, the place is very clean and well maintained.
This is a small ocean world but has it all to gives you a feel of various sea creatures. It does not take up much of your time if u r in a hurry. It also have a show where they show case the sea lion and dolphin performance and a special water jumping act by profesional team. The show time is around 1 hour. Not to miss this show and visit the aquarium before you head to the Geopark which is just a stone throw away.
