I love going here during fall when the leaves are yellow, red, brown, and green. I walk here and go all the way to the top and just sit there watching the view and relaxing my mind. Its a place where you get away from all the headaches and busy work life and just zone out in the morning fall breeze. The best day is on sunday because then your always looking forward to the sunday football games its the best season of the year. This was from personal point of view but that's what I think of this place, I am so glad I have this place to come to in New Haven.
Nice views of New Haven. Cute spot for a picnic. Joggers, bikers and other people were strolling around. Enjoyable couple of hours.
...or the road and the steps! Read about the monument and the features of New Haven - it's got an excellent atmosphere.
East Rock is one the largest city parks in New Haven. It is located off Exit 6 in the Cedar Hill neighborhood. As a local I have enjoyed East Rock Park for its many trails, that either go to the top of the rock, Rice Field (Baseball field), or to the Eli Whitney Museum. The Park offers basketball courts, a nature center, a river for kayaking or canoeing, and a 450 ft. view of the New Haven and Long Island Sound. At the summit there is a towering memorial, dedicated to Sailors and Soldier whom fought in past wars, such as, Civil War. This monument is visible for miles, it was recently restored. The park those have wildlife. Overall East Rock is great for all age groups and party sizes. You can take a hike, have a family gathering, play ball, bird watch, kayak, or admire the view from the top.
I live just a couple miles from this park, so I go occasionally for the view and pleasant atmosphere. And it feels safe here, unlike West Rock Park which has thug-like persons hanging out.
We took a drive up to East Rock on a sunny, cool, spring day.Convenient to the city but a whole different world. Lovely views, great hiking trail options, ample places for picnics, lounging, etc. and interesting history.
East Rock park is located at the top of East Rock an outcropping situated over New Haven, CT. A well paved winding road leads to the top where there are numerous grills for barbecue. The observation deck overlooks New Haven and on clear days Long Island can be seen in the distance.
You can see the entire city and even further. But on winter can be very chilly. The perspective is very different depending on the season.
Nice hiking and wonderful panoramic photo for identifying landmarks around the city. You can also drive to the top.
This is a large park that has a playground, picnic areas, and hiking trail to the top of East Rock. Hiking in the fall is beautiful with all the fall foliage and the views from the top are amazing. You can also drive to the top, where there are more picnic tables and a historical tower/monument.
