I joined a local tour and one of the oddest things the guide said was that we should all try the bathrooms since it had scenic views. The ladies bathrooms were typical. I liked the sink areas. The gents bathrooms were more exciting. I was told they could do business in partial view of nature. This place is easily a kid's paradise. It had an area where animals were not caged and kids could feed them. The animals are mostly babies so it's quite safe. A fair amount of hiking also made it quite relaxing for the adults. Even on a weekend, with multiple tour groups, you can find yourself in stretches of hiking ground with no one in sight. The place is large enough for people and animals. If you liked the night safari in Singapore, you'll like this too because they don't cage the animals. The birds were not chained but surprisingly stayed in their areas. It's funny seeing all the red macaus together and the blue/orange ones together even though their huts were just next to each other. The alpacas were also given designated times to roam around freely. They're cute and seem at ease with their surroundings. Food at the aboriginal restaurant was just alright. It was nothing special. Their vegetable dishes were better than meat or seafood dishes. I guess because it's more naturally a part of their diet in the mountains. At the time we went, the baby bamboo was in season and served as a dish, it was very good. For those who can get used to the baby bamboo smell, you have to try this dish. They have several snack stands too. At that time, we ordered a beef roll. While the flavor was good, the texture was a little to hard. It was also expensive. One thing I wanted to try was their eco-coffee. We inquired as to why it was ecological and where it came from but the servers didn't have any idea. It's too bad. It would have been nice to sit around sipping coffee, especially for adults, while kids played around the area. As an adult, I liked it a lot because it felt like there was ample room, the animals were not cramped and there were a lot of explanations along the way. I just hope they release their large fishes. Their enclosures looked cramped. I don't know how they got soooo big in there. I was still amazed though because it was my first time to see such a large version of a fish we normally keep in aquariums at home. If you're a nature lover or have kids, this is a nice place to spend the day. If you're a tourist only here for a few days, skip this since it's not really representative of Taiwan culture or original fauna. If you like tropical plants, then it would be cool to come here and you'd likely find info on which species are typically found in Taiwan or SEA.
Our relatives in Hsinchu took our family with young kids to Green World and it was a really great time. The kids absolutely LOVED it. The best way to describe Green World is that it's kind of a zoo/park/botanical garden/farm all in one. It wasn't crowded whatsoever and i felt like we almost had the entire place to ourselves. There is a stage show where their beautifully colored macaws perform tricks. There was a huge field where we ran around and threw frisbee. There are several different showcases with reptiles, butterflies, and other small animals including a few free roaming monkeys that would climb on you. There are several botanical displays with a huge variety of plants I've never seen nor heard of before. There is a petting zoo area with kangaroos and other marsupial like animals (although there was an overzealous lady zookeeper there who policed the kids and kind of sapped the fun a bit). There were also several different animals in enclosures--I must have spent 20 straight minutes just staring in rapture at the horde of porcupines they had eating fruit. Not to seem weird or anything but the constant chomping sound of dozens and dozens of feasting porcupines was absolutely hypnotizing! Finally there was the most incredible aviary with crazy exotic birds everywhere. Honestly, I couldn't believe there weren't hordes of tourists or families there. It was a fantastic day spent.
The place is not far from highway no. 3. - about 11 kilometers from the highway exit. I think the entrance fee is a little higher than I had expected - NTD 350 for adults and NTD 280 for junior high school students and below. It's summer and it's hot. We decided not to go too early, so we arrived at 3pm. They close at 5:30pm and so 2.5 hours should be enough to walk around. Otherwise, it would be quite exhausting. They have golf carts inside that can take you to and from (the farthest attraction) the bird sanctuary which is just beside that of the butterflies and insects. BUT, each ride is NT$20 per person. When we had finished with the sanctuaries, it was already 5:30pm. We were quite tired and there was still a long way to the gate. Fortunately, we saw a cart but had to pay NTD100 for all of us.We spent 30 minutes watching the bird/parrot show. This one is a must to see to make the most out of what you paid for. There was also this rainforest area where the snakes, lizards and turtles were. It's just beside where the Alpacas were. Some were enclosed while others were out grazing.Overall, if you love birds or your children do, then this is worth ONE visit. By the way, bring mosquito repellant, since the insect abounds inside the sanctuaries. Also expect to see rats inside the bird sanctuaries which are not killed nor caught, or the birds might be accidentally killed or injured.
We came on a weekday visit from Taipei. To get here by public transport is easy. Just take the HSR from Taipei to Hsinchu. There is no need to book tickets way in advance though you can get up to 35% discount if you book it in advance. At Hsinchu, get out at Exit 4 and heat out the last bus bay which is Bus Bay 6. A Go Bus service will come at 15 minutes past the hour, every hour to pick passengers up. The fee for a day ticket for the bus ride is available. Get down at Green World Ecological Farm. Now at the bus stop of Green World Ecological Farm, you need to call the farm personnel to come over with their minivan to pick you up. If you walk in, it is a logn 2km walk. The service is free anyway. The number is found on the headrest of the bus seats which you took and the bus stop as well. The park is wonderful but as I have read in earlier reviews, there are plenty of bugs. Normal for such places with animals. Even the SIngapore Zoo has its share of bugs. We came prepared and slapped on insect repellent. The exhibits are well done the animals do look very well cared for. The reptile and amphibian exhibits are amazing as well as the aviary. The star there are the toucans and Bird of Paradise. The other thing to note is the extensive use of scientific Latin names for the species. They seem very obsessed with it and don't use many of the common names for the animals. The alpacas at the Alpaca House is a hit with the children. If you are coming here, be prepared to spend a whole day. You can forget about the rest of the stops the Go Bus will bring you to like Beipu or the old Hakka village.
Among the flora and fauna in this expansive ecological area, the most interesting is the pellican. A few years ago a pellican had the misfortune of snapping off it's upper bill. The professionals at Green World scoured the pond and retrieved the missing portion and reattached it using cooking chopsticks as splinters. The pellican is happy and able to eat properly since the procedure.
可以跟动物很亲近,票价也ok,逛一整天脚真的会酸,有解说按钮可以按,就像在说故事一样,而且可以很明显感觉到动物有受过训练,懂礼貌,还会跟人一起逛园区~
