Hermann Park has a variety of things to do including the zoo, Japanese Gardens, Miller Outdoor Theater, golf course, train ride for the kids, playground for kids, paddle boating on a man-made lake, garden center (not to be confused with the Japanese garden), and a trail for walking/jogging. Have yet to experience the Miller Outdoor Theater but have walked around it and it looks like a nice venue for concerts. They have events at Hermann Park like the Japanese festival and dogs are now welcome everywhere which is nice since a few years ago dogs were not allowed in the Japanese gardens. The Japanese gardens are nice but a bit small; the garden center is larger. The reason I'm only giving it four stars is because Hermann Park is always crowded no matter what time of day or week we go which would be okay but finding parking is a nightmare, especially over Spring Break. Tip: Avoid the entire area during Spring Break. We literally waited an hour just to go around the block. If you are up for walking, find parking in Montrose rather than driving around Hermann Park looking for a spot. That's what we finally wound up doing and it worked out well.
Beautiful place to walk, relax, take the dog, have a picknick. Great place to watch concerts, have weddings, take photos. Very relaxing, very well maintained.
This is my new favorite spot in Houston since my fiancé used the Japanese garden there to propose to me on Valentine's day. The park was busy with couples, families, singles with dogs and activity all around. I saw people having picnics, suntanning, playing volleyball, kids chasing dogs, dogs chasing dogs but everyone had respected each others space and seemed to have a peaceful and enjoyable time. The Japanese Garden was beautiful and cherry blossoms smelled heavenly. Since it was February not everything was in bloom yet so I could only imagine many different flowers that would come from the buds that were surrounding us. I would recommend going in March-June. We even heard and saw singing birds that didn't care how close you got to them with your camera. Also, one shy big rabbit was amongst the greenery which was a nice surprise I didn't expect. There are many museums and restaurants in the area so definitely worth a look.
The park is very pretty and there is a lot to see. My issue was that the parking lot reeked of urine. Also the city has seen fit to prohibit smoking in all outdoor facilities within Houston. That is a little overboard if you ask me (and I'm not a smoker).
An obviously well-loved local resource. Ponds, streams, small railroad, trails, extensive plantings, children's playgrounds, parking, facilities, restaurants... It's endless. DO see the Japanese Gardens--they are spectacular. A 5-star Houston attraction.
里面有小火车,有很多停车位,如果停在入口处的停车场的话要走很久有很多的松鼠和鸽子,也有很多小孩,也可以做metro 过去,交通很方便
Especially on warm and sunny days, a lot of people and families are there. You can spent some hours by just walking on the paths. Great place to be, if you do not expect anything special. Only the japanese garden was a little disappointed.
We walked to the gardens after our day at the zoo and it was a great way to end the day! The gardens are beautiful in March and I can't imagine what it looks like in the full bloom of spring. Hermann Park is a great place with paddle boats and walking trails, but the Japanese Gardens are the highlight for us!
Beautiful and peaceful two mile jogging trail. It is super wide, and well groomed. You can get water and use the BR at the golf center. The people that use this trail are very friendly and will say hello and smile. The huge problem-and why I don't go anymore is that my car was broken into. Park employees actually saw the guy break in and just watched. Two women asked them to call the police, but they ignored them. It is a big problem as you can see broken glass from broken windshields all over the parking lots. It's a real shame that the city doesn't do something about this. There are constant patrols at Memorial Park, and I don't see why they can't have that at this park. It's not a great neighborhood, and the city should do more to protect the innocent citizens who want to go run or walk in the park.
Excellent environment for Family's and Couples, The park, pond and train are all a must. Great prices and Zoo also is very close by.
