This combined with sentintal dome was a great few hours. We tom some great pics at the point. Bring some snacks and enjoy the view.
The trail in is a fun and fairly easy hike. The trail is very well maintained and full of very interesting things to see. The views are absolutely amazing when you get to the point. I'd highly recommend this hike. I'll definitely do it again in the spring.
We saw the Sequoia groves, meadows, Tunnel View, Glacier Point, the village and some other things along the way but Taft Point was the best. The short hike through the woods is FLAT and easy. Once you get there the landscape is unreal. I've never seen anything like it. It is eerily quiet and you can hear your voice echo around the cliffs if you speak slightly above a normal talking level. There is a USGS marker indicating that you are at a height of 7,500 ft. If you have a hard time putting how high that is into perspective, take a look over the 90 degree cliff and you can see Yosemite Village way way down below. The views are breath taking and you'll definitely get some great pictures here. Glacier Point is great, but is filled with lots of concrete paths, people taking pictures and talking loudly which makes makes it feel a little too touristy. Sitting on the edge of the cliff at Taft Point really makes you feel connected to nature as there is nothing there man made except for a small, but sturdy, metal pole which you can lean on to look over the edge. Although it is gorgeous, this is not a good place to bring little kids who like to run around, and you shouldn't visit at night. There are no railings at all and there are places where the cliffs jut in at various locations which you have to walk around, and they are sometimes obscured by bushes. This is a must see for anyone driving up the long road to Glacier point.
This is an awesome hike. Only 2.5 miles round trip and a great view. at the end. Love it. And this time of year, it's nearly deserted.
It's easy to approach from the glacier point road. (2.2 miles/round trip)And, it was a truly awesome sight.
The magnificent view from Taft Point of Yosemite Valley is unparalleled. It's definitely worth the 30 minute hike because the view from here is better plus there are less people compared to Glacier Point. Since there are no railings, we were able to crawl to the cliff's edge and look down to the bottom. Also nearby, you'll see many fissures in the ground. It's an easy hike throught the forest for just over a mile. Taft point is so worth it. It's just beautiful. The views are outstanding, and there is a small railing if you are nervous about getting to close to the edge. Try to do this on a clear day as the views are incredible. If it's windy or you have little people with you be very careful of the edge and hands held at all times. There was only a couple of other people there the day we went and I could have spent hours.
This is an amazing hike, only a couple of miles but not for the faint hearted as the drops are huge. What's so wonderful is that you are completely left to your own devices. No signs saying watch this or watch that, just make your own decisions. The views from the edge are out of this world, overlooking El Capitan and the Yosemite Valley. Do yourselves a favour and go for a hike.
Wonderful vista and views of Yosemite. Beautifully clear day with minimal wind. Took many pictures of ourselves and of other hikers there. Only 1.1 mile from parking lot and trail not very rugged for those less experienced
Nice hike to a breathtaking viewpoint straight down into the valley. If I had to choose between Taft Point and Sentinel Dome, I would do the Dome for the better view. We found the loop hike with both to be challenging, but we are also not used to the elevation.
