Lake Barrine was the highlight of my trip. It was tranquil and the jade coloured water was lovely. The wildlife boat trip was wonderful and we saw some turtles, beautiful lake birds and other wildlife. The scones in the old world teahouse were lovely and the view was beautiful. The lily pads on the water were stunning and I got some great photos and video.Lake Barrine was a peaceful experience and I highly recommend it.
Stopped here as part of a tour. Beautiful spot not to be missed, even my teenage daughters commented how much they enjoyed the lake. Had the Devonshire Tea with scones fresh from the oven. Took the boat tour around the lake which was very relaxing. Seen ducks, eels, pelicans and a snake sunning itself on the bank. Well worth the visit.
I am a nature enthusiast and I really love Lake Barrine and the sister Lake Eachem. The gardens around Lake Barrine are well kept with colourful flowers. There are many Honeyeaters in the flowering trees. The walk around the lake is excellent and well maintained. A variety of wildlife may be encountered depending on the time of day. I did the boat trip with my family on another visit and it was informative and the tearooms served good food. I was after certain bird species to photograph and was elated to get shots of the Tooth-billed Bowerbird singing near it's bower and I was fortunate to see the male Victoria's Riflebird display on a fern stump adjacent to the carpark.Arriving in the early morning as the wildlife stiirred into action was a tonic for the soul
Had this recommended to us so dropped by on the way through. There a walks you can do around the lake, a boat trip you can do on the lake or you can laze away sometime on the banks of the river. There is a lovely cafe that overlooks the lake with nice gardens, we sat outside on the verandah and had coffee and lovely homemade cakes, I would recommend whiling away a few hours here.
There are tours and a tea house. There is a walk around the lake and some large trees to view (which I had forgotten about). The walk to the trees is apparently only 100-200m. Nearby Lake Eacham is probably better for swimming. Saw some people snorkeling too.
An excellent opportunity to experience rainforest close up with a multitude af wildlife - it is not a long walk but absolutely worth stupping for if you are in the area.
If you have time take the boat trip. It's very interesting & the lake & environs contain all sorts of wildlife
Gorgeous lake and teahouse. My husband and I loved kayaking around the lake, followed by a Devonshire Tea! (You need to take your own kayak though) Highly recommend. There is a boat trip if you don't want to venture off by yourself and we've heard that its worth doing. Take a day and maybe pack a picnic. We also did the walk around the lake too - lots of wildlife to look out for!
The teahouse at Lake Barrine is a wonderful period building in a stunning location. The food is nice but nothing particularly special, but everything tastes good sitting on the verandah with the view over the lake. The walk around the lake via two enormous Kauri trees is well worth the effort, and watch out for wildlife - we saw a tooth-billed bower-bird displaying, and a musky rat-kangaroo, amongst others.
We just loved Lake Barrine. It is an absolutely awesome lake. We walked to two Kauri Pine trees believed to be over 1000 years old. They are called Twin Kauri Pines. They are giants of the rainforest. It is a rather large lake and you can do a cruise on a small boat and get a good impression of the lake and surrounding beautiful rainforest. You will spot a few different birds and you will hear even more of them. It is a very tranquil place where the nerves can relax after a long day on the road. We were extremely luck to spot a Cassowary. This is a huge flightless bird which may attack you. They are rare birds so we consider ourselves very fortunate to have seen one in the wild. There is a lovely teahouse which serves great coffee, very nice food and Devonshire tea. You can easily spend a day at the lake basking in the sun like another crocodile. Go bushwalking or even bring you own lunch and dine at the BBQ shelter. It is one of the places not to miss out on while visiting the beautiful Atherton Tablelands. If you want to go swimming there is another fantastic lake not far away, Lake Eacham.
