Growing up in Chicago, I always enjoyed trips to Lincoln Park Zoo. Today I brought my grandson here for a visit. It's just as wonderful as it was when I was a child. The animals are displayed beautifully, gorillas, lions, lots of "zoo" babies! The facility is clean, easy to walk through, train for small children, great farm area. This was a day when the winter weather was gone, 60 degrees, so many families out and enjoying the day, (3/15/15). Challenge parking, but we found a spot. Location is north side right off the lake front, perfect!
While it is no Columbus Zoo, it has a wide range of animals and the habitats that the animals are living in are quite nice. There is some construction going on so I am looking forward to going back once it is complete to see what they are putting in place. This is a great place to wander, chat and view the amazing animals. What a relaxing afternoon!!! Don’t miss the Conservatory! The plants were amazing. If you have kids, they will have fun looking for and counting the miniature dinosaurs located throughout. There is food that you can purchase and plenty of place to sit and eat. Bathrooms are located all over the zoo.
Obviously coming from NY, i have visited the Bronx Zoo. It is about $35 per person there so when i heard that the Lincoln Park Zoo was free i didn't have high expectations. Well i was wrong. It was beautiful and had not only animals everyone wants to see like Tigers, Giraffes and Gorillas, but it also had animals i had never heard of and/or seen. We took the bus from the Loop for $2.50 and spent about 4 hours seeing everything the zoo had to offer. The seals were so friendly and photogenic and the Tiger was prancing in the snow. The food cafe served beer and pretty decent food. **No free refills on any beverage**If i lived in Chicago i would love running around this zoo as i saw many people doing. I am not sure if it is allowed but there were even people walking their dogs in the park.... Loved:The animal selectionThe cafe and prices were reasonableHated:They advertised new animal that got there in 2013 and coming soon summer of 2016- yet missed advertising the birth of a baby gorilla the week prior. (annoyed me their concept of time) but that's just being picky.
We were very impressed with this zoo. Considering that this zoo is a free zoo you would think that the quality of the facility would be compromised but that is definitely NOT the case here. This zoo is top notch! The animals were all very healthy and well cared for. Their enclosures were all clean and well maintained. The park grounds were very clean and appropriately designed. They are in mid-upgrade of a couple of sections right now and that is soo encouraging to see that it has plans to continue to grow.
This is a favorite for the locals. There is no admission fee and you can buy food here or pack a picknic lunch. There are animals from all over the world and this is perfect for a leisurly strole or family fun. St.John 3:16
我非常喜欢林肯公园动物园,还是免费的呢,很适合来散步打发时间,况且还不要门票!
This Zoo promotes conservation and relies on donations - free entrance. The zoo is built around a walking track that leads from Lincoln Park Conservatory into Michigan Avenue and the famous DuSable drawbridge
Pretty astounding, especially for a free zoo. Grab some hot chocolate and head there in December and enjoy the elaborate Christmas lights.
Visited for the first time last week. Incredible variety of animals and very kid friendly. And best of all, free!
