I was just in general awed by Alaska, but this was the best. The waterfalls, seals and the icebergs all made up for a pretty amazing day! You could see the glacier far off and that was pretty mesmerizing.
The inlet that takes you to the glaciers is gorgeous. You will pass by stunning waterfalls, cliffs and mountains. As you approach the glacier, there are dozens of seals laying on the ice. They are so cute! The glacier is magnificent. If you are lucky, you may see see a piece of ice breaking and falling into the water. The trip is not cheap, but it's worth it.
WOW! We went on Alaskan cruise and this was an incredible experience! I was in ahhh with what I was seeing.
We cruised on a ship and visited many places but this was majestic. The glaciers crack like rifle fire and then drop into the sea. Purely spectacular to witness. Make this fjord top of your list when visiting Alaska.
Sailing up the Tracy Arm was spectacular. The scenery of mountains, forests, glaciers, waterfalls and icebergs were awe inspiring.
I have been to many places in this world featuring glaciers, from fjords in Alaska, Chile, and Norway to land-locked glaciers in North America and Europe. The only place at all comparable is Hardangerfjord in Norway, in my opinion.
The boat trip to and through the fjord, taken in late September, was quite an experience. The scenery is exceptional and Sawyer Glacier is amazing. The Captain was extremely knowledgeable and made the trip quite educational. He stayed in the fjord until we were able to see the glacier calving. Getting up close and personal with an iceberg was another treat. The wildlife was incredible. There were hundred of harbor seals but the highlight was a pod of nine humpback whales including two young ones. They were breaching and swimming close to the boat. One completely cleared the water! The photo opportunities were numerous. A must if you are in the Juneau area. Worth every penny.
Tracy Arm fjord is extremely beautiful from the boat or land. The mountains reflecting off the still water are breathtaking. Bring binoculars to watch the birds and wildlife.
If you do nothing else while visiting Juneau, you must visit Tracy Arm Fjord....magnificent!! Of course, you must go by boat...The Captain on our boat was a gem, with a dry laconic sense of humour....:)
Tracy Arm was beautiful. My eye opening moment was realizing that even looking through the binoculars the seals looked very small. As I thought about that, it dawned on me how huge that glacier was!
